Starts at 0:30. My rubber shroud thing did not come right off, I had to grab those two nubs sticking up and twist it counter clockwise about 1/16 of a rotation, then it comes right out...also getting the shroud back on it has a little writing on it that says "top", you have to push it onto the headlight first, then screw it back on. It was actually hard, I kinda recommend just pulling the headlight assembly if it's your first time doing it, adds 10 minutes but saves on your knuckles and sanity. Then you can more easily see how far on you have to push that shroud (hint: it's pretty far, I didn't push mine in enough) and that the metal doo-hickey goes "above" the new lamp.. My suggestion to the youtuber would be to actually pull the headlight assembly afterward to show us what you're doing in there, it's hard to see (and also hard to see when you're doing it yourself LOL).

Thanks for a quick and easy break down on how to replace the bulb without taking off the bumper. The bolts on my Prius were rusted and stripped when I tried taking it off. I gave up for a few months and was riding dirty. Thanks to your video I was able to replace my bulbs with ease! Cheers!

I have a 2004 Prius.... one of the first of the 2nd Gen Prius --- I've watched NUMEROUS videos on how to replace these headlight bulbs, this video is very good. My ONE comment would be, CHECK YOUR BULB before buying one. On most of these videos, I see the 9003 bulbs being replaced. On Amazon I was told both the 9003 and the 9006 bulbs fit the 2004 Prius. For ME, neither worked. I needed the D2R HID bulbs for my particular Prius. My BEST guess is that Toyota started with these bulbs, then converted over the 9003. Check before you purchase.... Also beware of VAST price difference for the bulbs... when I checked my local O'reilly's Autopart store, they wanted $100 (you read that correctly $100) for 1 D2R HID bulb for my Prius -- I found a 2 pack on Amazon for like $28 with delivery tomorrow morning.

Yep amazon sold me the wrong headlamp. For me it's a 9003 for the '07 Prius no fog lights FWIW...how can we tell what's the right kind besides pulling the current?

Goddamnit just pulled apart the whole system to find out I bought the wrong 9003 replacement for this same reason. Frustrating as all hell. Thanks for this comment otherwise I would be totally lost.

Thanks for this. For me, everything was super quick and easy right up to where I had to put the rubber twist-on seal back on. That part gave some trouble. One thing that helped me was to push the old bulb into the rubber seal just to get a better idea of how it needs to go over the new bulb. Most everything in this project is by feel since you can't really see what your hands are doing, so it can be a bit tricky. But in the end, it worked for me and I didn't even lose any skin. I should mention that this is for the driver-side headlight. The passenger side is more involved and there's another video out there for that. I should also mention that I have fairly small-to-average sized hands. If you stuff sausages for a living, this might be harder still.

Thank you so much! I watched a few videos and only yours showed me how the 'wire clips' work. I was able to take the old bulb out but could not out it back. Thanks yo your video, I did it!!!

Well his parts came right apart. Mine feel to be glued together. I also don't know where the little tab/s are on the plastic plug to the bulb, as the ALWAYS have a tab/s you have to pry or squeeze. So at this point in not being able to get any of this apart, I'm really considering removing the bumper and light assy.. As I said in this video his rubber boot practically fell out of the car and the plastic plug nobody ever bothers to mention what you have to pry on or whatnot to unplug it. We need to know that when we are tugging away on that. I can't risk breaking that thing and the rubber boot only turned slightly with a great deal of force and now seems like it's there for good.

Some Prius' have different lightbulbs and covers than this, so you'll quickly find this video doesn't help you. My 2007 takes expensive D4R bulbs, the headlight cover is different than he describes in the video, and you can't get to both bulbs without dropping the bumper.

maybe the kid has small hands but for me I got the bulb out with a few minutes working by feel. Getting the whole thing back together was another matter and ultimately I had to drop the bumper after not being able to reinstall the parts in such a tight space.

First thing you touched the bulb with your finger.You didn't mention it and you didn't clean it before installing the bulb. Secondly I have installed both the headlights on my 09 and have very large hands.I can barely do the passenger side,but removing the drivers side is not a big deal.
@sluglozenge26 күн бұрын
Yup. I actually watched this waiting for him to do the passenger side this way because I already l changed the driver's side this way. Minus getting body oils on the bulb.

I just had to do this, but nothing compares to having to change the ABS actuator. My god was that a bitch. Took me 10 hours, but I saved about 2k doing it myself. I really like the prius gen 2, but damn is it cramped in there. I really want the new 2024 model, that thing is just sexy. Had one behind me today. Got about 8k saved, shooting for 12 to 15k and waiting for either 2025 to come out or I may wait until next year and get a 2025 when the 2026 comes. I am hoping they have better supply next year because the supply chain is a joke and I am sure doen on purpose. You pretty much have to order around here or go used and I just don't love higher apr on used so I am just waiting it out. Either way I am keeping my gen 2 as I dash on the side and am not about to do that in a new car. Plus it is nice to have a backup. I also have a Mazda 3 2013 and really like the new cx30s. Waiting on Mazda to do my hybrids. Supposedly cx5 is getting a new gen hybrid to match cx70 and 90 (to expensive for my taste). May even wait for new gen mazda 3 to see if it gets one. My gf and mom both have a cx 5. Mom has 170k miles and no issues as of yet and gf had a pump fail at 140k. So solid cars imo. My 3 has maybe 600 in repairs outside tires and stuff and it sits at 170k. So we have had a great experience with Mazda. Wish they were more popular. I see soooo many Kias and Hyundai on the road lately and while I know they are better than they use to be, I just could not imagine buying any of that shit.
