Thanks so much for posting this video - I was able to successfully replace the bulbs in my 2010 GTI! My hands got a bit scraped up but it’s all working great. I have seen some auto parts websites say the 2010/mark 6 takes an H7 bulb-that’s wrong, definitely the H15! Thanks again for the help!

Thank you!! This video helped me replace my bulb. No kidding it’s a tight spot. I had to push down hard ish with my thumb and use a whatever I could from my index finger and finally I got the burnt out one loose. It took about 15 minutes to get the right spot. If you have slightly bigger hands it’s going to be a challenge.

yep I cant remove my left bulb as like you say no room at all. Well done VW making is so damn difficult. Thinking of cutting a socket up to slide over the tab and then use a socket wrench to twist it.

It is possible. You need to patiently maneuver the needle nose pliers in there. Small vice grips could work too.

Very easy i changed them on both sides in less than 5 mins, its anti clockwise and a little wriggle around to get them out and then its clockwise to get them back in and my hands aren't exactly small

I'm giving you "props" for identifying locations of H15 and H7. I have a better understanding of HI/DRL vs Low beam. Good job! BTW, the airbox is not that hard to remove; maybe tedious, but not major.

How though?? I removed the one bolt I could see (closest to the engine): the fitting closest to the headlamp, no idea what it is nor how to remove it! So frustrating… stupid design for swapping bulbs

I want to change the drl to led but there is a very wide price range between them, do the cheap ones just last less long or do they shine less bright

Well as shown the DRL & the high beam share the same bulb in a dual-filament 15 + 55 W set-up. I don't know of any products that replace the DRL filament with an LED while also providing the regular high beam halogen. You definitely shouldn't try to retrofit any LED to a halogen headlight fitting, they do not work. Dangerous and probably illegal.

I think it's the same bit to set as LED sidelights, which I have done a video on here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4qUeGiaeLp4i80 - toward the end I show OBDeleven & VCDS. I haven't done it myself to check, and there may be other coding to do as well.

It can be coded. Except, on my car, while the bulbs for the DRL exist, and the headlight loom plug has the connector, the wiring does not exist...

Philips and Osram both do them. The OEM bulbs are Osrams. Amazon links above in description.

No. You can get (illegal) retrofit LEDs but they're a dumb idea and will not produce a properly shaped beam. If you don't like halogen headlights then the upgrade would be to replace the entire headlight with the HID version, either VW original or a correctly designed aftermarket. (That will also require some coding.)
