Like you were saying about check the oil filter before you leave the store I would highly recommend it and to make sure the seal on the oil hasn't been broken. I work at a store and it's been a scam lately again for people are filling up the oil with their old oil and then taking it back to the store to get a refund.

Kevin, also in certain application you should also replace your Teflon washer of your oil drain plug at Every oil change ( some vehicles have this some don't, depends on make and model and year of your vehicle ) because typically if you have a Teflon plastic washer on your drain plug, a leak can occur. Thanks! For sharing your video!😎👍

I see you bought 2 extra quarts of oil, I just buy 2 5qt. oil change kits and save the extra oil for the next change. I also ONLY buy Full Synthetic and not the High Milage stuff, I don't like the extra additives. I get Mobile 1 or Valvoline Oil when the oil change kit is $27-$29. So I buy 2 ($60 max for both but only need 1 the next time, then back to 2 kits, etc. ) and get extra oil for the next change and an extra filter. It also usually works out that the kit gives you a long life filter. I have an 04 Buick Rainier with the 4.2L. I also use about 1/2 Qt of oil to run thru while the oil plug is out, just to flush out more old stuff. Having 3 Qts extra by buying 2 kits ( 5 qts. each ) allows the 1/2 qt flush on each oil fill.
@KevinNadeau
@KevinNadeau 5 жыл бұрын
Good point about buying two 5-quart jugs. Definitely less expensive in the long run. I question the benefit of "flushing" with a half quart while the plug is out. Mainly because most of the oil would drain down the front of the block (through timing chain galley) and come straight out the plug.
@batsonelectronics
@batsonelectronics 5 жыл бұрын
@@KevinNadeau I do it after the oil has drained so yeah what you said but it also washes away any sediment at the bottom of the pan between the front of the pan and the drain hole. I have extra oil so the 1/2 qt would be wasted anyway so I hope it does something, if not, what has it hurt ?
@KevinNadeau
@KevinNadeau 5 жыл бұрын
@@batsonelectronics I understand that. It should hurt anything. Just at ~$7 / quart, i don't see the cost-benefit. That was my only point. 👍🇺🇸

@@KevinNadeau I don't buy by the Qt. I buy 2- 5 Qt containers for a 7 qt fill. That leaves 3 Qts. extra. The next oil fill I buy 1 5 qt. gallon plus the 3 is 8, leaving 1 extra Qt that will not last till the next oil change. ( I drive 2-3k miles per YEAR so I change the oil every year ) Since I have 1 qt. left over I use 1/2 qt. this change and 1/2 qt. next change to semi flush out the drain hole and whatever else it cleans out. I wait until the warm oil is completely drained before I put in the 1/2 qt to flush it more. If I didn't run the 1/2 qt thru every change, I would end up with 1QT of extra oil every 2 changes. If you buy the 2 extra Qts separately then obviously I would not waste any oil doing what I do. I buy oil when it is on sale in the 5 Qt jug, I buy 2 of them and get 2 oil filters.( 27.99 to 29.99 each kit ) I have 2 extra filters right now.

@@batsonelectronics I don't believe you do any of this. I believe you are just making the whole thing up. I have a 2004 Trailblazer with 178k miles with videos of me changing the oil. I'm like Kevin. I buy a 5 quart container and 2 single quarts. I use Motorcraft synthetic blend 5w30 oil and Fram filter. Why do I use Mc oil in a GM engine you ask? I bought a new 2016 F150 with the 2.7 ecoboost. It has 67k miles now and run like a brother from a racist cop. If the oil is strong enough for my ecoboost. It can handle n/a 4.2 inline 6.

@@ericpfiffner5615 I read this from a comment on his original fix video.He was not specific on what to do, here is what I did and it worked. Buy 2 gallons of Berryman CHEM-DIP and 5 qts. of cheap oil 5-30 or 5-20.( I had to buy 3 Chem-Dips as all AutoZone had was the one with the parts tray in it and it only has 96 oz. of actual cleaner in the 1 gal. container. 1 Gal = 128 Oz. ) I warmed up the truck, drained the oil like normal. Put the plug back in and measured out 1 gallon of the Chem-Dip ( took all of 1 can and part of the second ) and poured that in thru the OIL DIP STICK hole using a funnel I had to tape on to the tube to prevent fluid from leaking out, I used painters tape so it came back off without residue after the Gallon went in ) I let that sit in the oil pan ( 1 Gal. is enough to fill over the pickup tube but too much to hit the main bearings ) for 24 hours. The next day I went out and shook the truck side to side several times and back and forth. ( enough travel in the suspension to allow the fluid to slosh back and forth to help break up the sludge.) I did it 3 or 4 times during that day. I let the truck sit 1 more day and moved it side to side and back and forth several times the second day and then near dark, drained all the Chem-Dip out. I replaced the plug and put in a fresh Gal. of Chem-Dip using a new container and about half of what was left of the already opened one. I waited until the next day and sloshed it a few times again and then drained it near dark. I put in the 5 Qts. of cheap oil and sloshed it around. I went back out the next day, sloshed it one more time and then did a full oil change, including filter. I did run the truck for 5 minutes first to warm up the oil, but I didn't drive it or put it under any load as there might be some Chem-Drip in the oil that had not flashed off during the night. Since I did that routine, I have had no problems. I figure it cost about $100 with the oil change. I only use Full Synthetic oil in my cars. I bought this one recently and had the problem a few days later. It runs smoother and slightly cooler than before. I bought a manual oil pressure gauge with brass tubing to put in to keep an eye on it. I have not installed it yet but will do so shortly. That added about $55-$60 extra but I will have a reliable way to watch the actual pressure and will mount it to the right of the steering wheel just under the cluster with the surface bracket. My Rainier doesn't have the space next to the radio to flush mount it like the Trailblazers and Envoys do. I hope that helps. I was panicking when I thought it was a $1000+ fix as I bought the truck for $2500 so I could sell my more valuable car to use the money to pay bills.

Hello Kevin, it is almost time to change the oil in my 2007 Envoy. What do you think? Is it appropriate to add engine oil? 5w40 Or do I just stick to what is written on the hood? My car has been covered for 237,000 so far
@SecurityZone1
@SecurityZone1 2 ай бұрын
Stick to the manufacturer recommended oil weight the thickness isn't going to make a difference the engine was designed to operate at a certain oil pressure you don't want to add thicker oil that's going to end up in the exhaust system and leak from the seals just keep it 5w30 if that's what it's asking for otherwise ur actually causing more wear on the inside of it was back in the day when oil was just straight 30 weight and not 5w anything then it would be fine to use thicker oil as the car ages but NEVER do that with modern engines!

Or what is your recommendation for me!

3:00 don't put thicker oil in an old engine. Like you said, the engine has a lot of miles. The oil pump also has a lot of miles also. Thicker oil take longer for an old oil pump to suck it up. Nowhere in your owner manual does it say to go to a thicker oil when the engine get old. It was design to run 5w30 oil.

I just pulled my owner's manual and in fact it does say 5w30 is best, however, if you are operating in temps of 0 degrees F or higher and 5w30 isn't available, you may use 10w30. The manual does say not to use other viscosity oils such as 20w50 though.
