Dawg you rock. I bought a 2003 almost a year ago and haven't had the time until recently to work on it. Haven't even ridden it a 100 miles. I appreciate the vids and I'll watch any maintenance vids you put out on this model ❤

awesome video - tons of amazing tips that I already had issues finding in the shop manual, keep it coming, which I could bring my bike to you for service

You should always check the oil on a 'Dakar' on the side stand, not centre stand. Thats why it was low after putting in the perfect volume. I also now pump the oil out the tank rather than messing around unbolting the tank to drain it.

Great tips. Thank you!

40Nm for the oil drain plug ist to much. 20 Nm it's fine. BMW correct the torque after some issues. Nice video by the way.

This one belongs in a museum! It's basically new. The wife used to have a heavily modified one years ago. I miss that bike from time to time.

Would it make sense to keep the lower drain plug out till you open the oil filter cover to help with drainage? Relief any vacuum in there?
@MotoDuoMedia6 ай бұрын
It shouldn't make much difference. First, the crank case has to be vented in some way in order to keep pressure from building up inside the engine during operation and blowing out seals, although the PCV systems are sometimes equipped with one way valves. Even if that were a concern, when you remove the cap it's a large opening and would allow air in from the top of the opening. Think about it like pouring liquid out of a cup rather than a bottle with a small opening. That said, that's one of the reasons that I leave the slightly unscrewed around the 8:43 mark, although I didn't mention that specifically. Ride safe and thanks for the comment!

Hello very helpful video ! Is it in the single spark model exactly the same process?
@MotoDuoMediaАй бұрын
Yes, should be the same process!

Really nice clear video, thanks. Did you warm the bike up prior to draining the oil? What are your thoughts on that?
@MotoDuoMedia5 ай бұрын
I did, sorry if I forgot to mention that. I tend not to let it get all the way hot, but you can do that if you like. It's best to do that because anything that's not caught in your filter is more likely to be suspended in the oil and will be drained out. You will also be able to drain it out quickly as the oil will flow out much better when it is hot.

I just suck the oil out of the oiltank.
