The metal key that comes with the Smart key was designed to open it. Just insert it at the slot and twist to open. No need to use tweezers or pliers and this avoids damaging the soft plastic.

Yeah, but if you lift and separate the plastic side with the Lexus L on it, then its easier, you are then just in plain view of the battery, instead of having to remove the board and turn it . Not a big deal, but its always better to do it the way with the less steps. Less chances of breaking or damaging anything . Capisce?

Fastest way to do it is to pull the key portion out, make sure the Lexus emblem is facing up, pop off the cover with the Lexus logo "this side exposes the battery so you don't have to take the board out of the fob", pop out the old battery, pop in the new battery, replace cover. Hopefully this helps
