This is video will briefly show you how I easily changed the spark plugs in a 2013 - 2017 Honda Accord 2.4 L with the Earth Dreams Technology Engine. SPARK PLUG PART NUMBERS LISTED BELOW.
All you will need is a few tools and a little ambition. The total time from start to finish took me no longer that 30 minutes including gapping the spark plugs.
Note: Gapping the spark plugs isn't strictly necessary because they usually come pre-gapped but I do it anyway. The plugs I received were out by 0.1-0.2 mm, minimal.

Nice job. I like the use of the rubber hose to take the place of a 9/16" spark plug socket. I went ahead and bought one for a few bucks since all I had was 5/8" and something else I can't recall at the moment, but this is a great workaround as long as the existing plugs come out without much fuss.

Great video. I just started fixing my car. I have few q’s for you. What’s the socket extension size? 3/8, 5/8? And what kind of torque wrench should I get?
@ShopEightyFive

Thanks! I used a 3/8” socket extension and a 3/8” torque wrench that has a range from 5-80 lb/ft. You can pick one up online or most auto parts stores for around $30. If I remember correctly I bought mine on amazon. They have everything! Good luck!

Thanks! Depending on which plugs are used anti-seize isn’t necessary. I went with NGK plugs which don’t require it. However if you do decide to use it, make sure to decrease the torque spec.

@@jobber1984 I have heard this problem on these types of direct injection engines but not about Honda directly (the crossfires with these would bang valves) my 2014 accord was tickky when i first got just it _I use mobil 1 gas and a few injector cleaners additives and the clicky went away - remember this direct injection also causes oil dilution from the gas coming in at 40k psi via ring blow by and change your oil twice as much!

Dirwctly behind the oil fill cap about 8 inches towards the firewall is a 3/8 hose that goes from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. Put your catch can inline with that hose. The bracket that the fuel supply line is just above this area. You can use that bracket to mount the catch can to. That's what I did.

Don’t gap if they have iridium tips
@lmbear
@lmbear 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Something that should really be said, but is not said in this video. Also, a magnetic spark plug socket is the ticket for removing and installing the plugs. This is a simple job that just about anyone can do, but again don't mess with the gap on an iridium plug. If it is gapped right, take it back and get one that is. The reason for that is the iridium electrode can be damaged by incorrectly adjusting the gap on the plug.

my car is at 129k now, its 2013. I believe I had spark plugs changed at the dealer at 100,000 miles while doing other services. however, I'm feeling like they didnt change them at all. is there anyway I can check if my spark plugs have never been replaced ?? my car has been getting really bad gas mileage. I usually average about 33..35 per tank. now its stable at 29, same driving habits, same commute distance...
@ShopEightyFive
@ShopEightyFive 6 жыл бұрын
Dat Huynh It’s difficult to tell 100% whether or not they were changed. Either way, Honda recommends changing the spark plugs every 30k so you might as well replace them since you’re due. This way you’ll know when it was done and will know to do them again at 60k.
@BA-gn3qb
@BA-gn3qb 2 жыл бұрын
@@ShopEightyFive - Actually, Honda's recommendation is 105,000 miles using iridium plugs. These come pregapped, and the gap tool you used will scrape off the iridium tip making them fail.

Did you use a specific “spark plug socket” for this, or will a normal “deep” socket without the rubber insert work to loosen the without damaging it?
@ShopEightyFive
@ShopEightyFive 6 жыл бұрын
I used a spark plug socket but you could get away without one for removal. The benefit of having the retaining rubber is it holds the spark plug in place which makes removal easier but more importantly you won't drop the spark plug when reinstalling. Take extra care when tightening the spark plug as well as you will run a higher risk of cross threading. I typically hand tighten first and then tighten and torque the rest of the way with a wrench.
