How to Change the Air Filter on your 2007 Citroën C4 1.6 HDi

In this episode of Driveway Dudes Will, shows you how to remove and fit a air filter on his 2007 Citroën C4 1.6 HDi.
Tools and miscellaneous used:
3/8 Ratchet.
16mm Socket.
10mm Socket.
Torx Key.
Allen Bit.
Trim Removal Tool.
Rubber / Latex gloves.
Please check you have the correct filter before you start this task

When I saw this was a 17 minute long video I thought this was going to include a load of unnecessary steps but wow they really made replacing an air filter as difficult as possible!

I’m old enough to remember the 1970s when changing an air filter could be done in one minute flat. But I suppose they’ve made progress since then. 🤪

Today I complained to the manger of my local Peugeot garage about this ridiculous fandango just to replace an air filter. He laughed and said "Why make something easy when you can make it complicated ?!" This is in France ... Seriously tho', some sort of consumer watchdog should get on to cases like this and forbid manufacturers from designing engines which result in an hour's labour just to change an air filter, a regular maintenance part. The vid is 17'.38" long with numerous speeded up sections. So you can bank on 25mins for a pro to do this and the same again in reverse - there's your 1 hr labour charge to do a 10 sec filter change.

I got a c4 in 2008 and then thought what a load of plastic shite. Rolling on a few years 2021 and 130,000 miles later, I'm still thinking when is this piece of plastic crap going to fail? My guess is in ten years time. Home services are the way to go, if you can . P.s. Thanks for the post

Thanks for that, I just had a "full service" done to my C4, and I doubt very much that they changed the air filter seeing how pernickety it is, so I basically paid €246+VAT for an oil change 🙄

Most likely, but would also require removal of battery is my guess.

If a garage has a set price for a service and the air filter is part of that service then it would have to be done regardless of the time it would take. We show how you can do it yourself so if you have the time and don't mind a little challenge then it's fun and rewarding to be able to say "I did it myself"

And Citroen have made this such a ball-ache that I'd be surprised if even a Main Dealer would actually bother, let alone an Independent on the feathery edge of profitability. I'd go so far as to guess that every Citroen dealer and independent specialist has a dirty air filter on standby for if a customer says "show me the old part" for when they claim to have replaced it.... there must be thousands of C4s driving around with filthy 10yr old air filters. Disclaimer: I have one of these and am constantly amazed how 'kin complex Citroen have made even the simplest task; try taking the battery out, for example!!! ....... Harry Dunne was right: The French ARE assholes!!!

Several others use this type of engine including Peugeot, Ford, Volvo, Suzuki, etc. It may not be as difficult in other brands

The airbox is a crap design with it being in an awkward spot and ive lost count on how many times ive heard a 1.6 HDI sound like a tank when the intake pipe is broken or loose.
