Very informative and helpful. One heads up. After swapping the battery, I started the car and let it sit. As expected, I got the system initializing message. I then drove off to return the old battery. The Civic displayed a truly amazing set of error messages all the way to the store: "TPMS problem", "Power Steering Problem", "Brake Problem", etc, etc. Turning off and back on again made them all go away.

Great video. I've changed many batteries over the years, but always in much older cars so this was very helpful. One thing to remember is don't completely remove the nut from the left battery hold down J rod. I accidently dropped mine and it fell between the bottom of the engine and the belly pan. Took forever to find it and fish it out.

That's why in my toolbox I have a telescoping rod with a magnet on the end. I suppose in this situation you can prevent losing the nut by hand loosening it for the last bit and making sure you grab it just as it comes off the rod.

Thank you for making such a nice video. The original group size of battery for this Civic should be 47 (H5). I think this is a Canadian version Civic which use a larger battery than the regular one which has 51R size group. I first brought the 51R battery in Costco ending up with the clamp down j-blot is barely long enough to hole the battery down. I also tried 35 size (from my Accord) where many online threads mentioned, but it was too big to fit.
@vinnie20333 жыл бұрын
Yes canadian 2.0L have a bigger OEM battery, and replacements are smaller batteries. In order for the smaller battery to fit, you need to replace the battery box to the smaller size and it also comes with a heat shield.

For anyone who has replaced a battery on a similar model if you have issues where the vehicle does not crank or do anything on a cold start and you have to keep cycling it twice or shift to N to start. Do this; 1. IGN off 2. Disconnect the negative terminal then the positive 3. Connect / touch both terminas together or use a jumper wire with a fuse built into it if you wanna be on the safe side. 4. IGN on 5. Leave the vehicle like that for 10 minutes 6. IGN off 7. Connect the positive terminal and then the negative terminal. This how you perform a battery reset on these and most vehicles when you have some funny electrical problems going on.

I have a 2017 Honda Civic that literally quit working. Checked the battery and the terminal has corrosion. 🤷🏽♀️ Is that normal for a vehicle that I've only had for just under 4 years?
@jacobpetersen56623 жыл бұрын
We live in Texas and park our cars in a garage. Summer months easily get into the high nineties in a garage and this heat KILLS batteries. We get about 2+ years on both our 2017 civic and 2018 accord. It's normal. Corrosion is most likely due to high humidity. Depends on where you live and park your car each day.
