Thanks for the Cayman content. I'm rolling along with my upgrades to my 987.2 and the next one will be a lightweight Antigravity battery. 30 lbs lighter than stock and over $1K cheaper than the OEM lightweight one. Yours looks lighter too. I would also recommend to other viewers carrying around a lithium ion battery pack/jump starter for emergencies.

Brandon - thank you for the comment. I’m not too familiar with the anti gravity battery but it sounds cool. Great idea with the battery pack start kit. I’ll check Amazon soon.

Unless you need to use the car right away, I suggest connecting your battery maintainer and letting it fully charge to get the longest battery life.

I always charge em up on the trickle before installing....why not although seriously i dont think it is likely to make a difference in my experience.....I have also found my neglected batteries last way longer than the "warranty" period on dang near ever vehicle I ever owned....even ones that sit and drain down repeatedly like my pick up truck battery I finally replaced after EIGHT years! I have hardly used the truck for years and it often had a hard time starting just because I dont drive it enough to keep charged....every so often I have trickle charged it back up and occasionaly had to jump it but Im just pointing out that EVEN with fairly extreme abuse they seem to last in spite of neglect....at least here in sunny southern california....YMMV elsewhere idk

What year did Porsche cayman introduce battery programming? Love that the 987.1 doesn't have it.
@512TXSDIY Жыл бұрын
I actually don’t know but believe it’s 2012 when they introduced it but could be wrong. Can someone answer for Pete?
@warrenlucier5796 Жыл бұрын
I think that came around when they went to stop start after the 987.1 & 987.2 versions.

Does the brace bracket get connected after you have the new battery on the terminals? I assume so, but wanted to confirm the step on when to reinstall the brace bracket. Also, do you know who sells those plastic fasteners? I lost one if mine when recharging my battery. Great video and thank you.

I put everything back together before putting on terminals. eBay is Amazon where I source most parts honestly. If it’s a specialty part, then I like using FCP Euro. Thx for watching and please like/subscribe.

I suppose one could connect a small battery in parallel with the old battery assuming it is weak and not dead....THEN you would not have to reset anything....I imagine some cars could be powered via cigarette lighter type power port if that port stays powered all the time? If a small battery you would just want to make sure not to put any load on it while swapping the battery? Another solution would be allegator clips one to ground negative and the other to a good positive location prior to disconnecting the battery....of course if the batery has actually totally DIED where all the electronics is off anyway then there would be no point but especially if you need to get a smog test right away not allowing the car to go without battery power could save a LOT of drive cycle time! for instance not counting if you have to reset any Porsche PIA electronics...idk what that might entail but it sure might be easy to just avoid?

WalMart - lol! Who cares where it's from if manufacturer is reputable and it fits, right? I bought mine at O'Reilly's for about same price. Hardest thing about this job is moving those lumps around to that compartment! Question - though - if date stamp from 2017 - what is normal life expectancy of a battery in here? Also, I saw you flexing with that lift in the opening - maybe even duffed your hood when it went up - lol?!
@512TXSDIY2 жыл бұрын
Agreed :-). 4 year warranty from Walmart is just too easy. It’s still pretty heavy and awkward moving it around in the compartment. If you have a battery from 2017, I would change it at 5 years or if you start seeing signs of it struggling to start. Proactive maintenance is great but is pricy in my opinion. I fix things when they break and “while I’m in there” surrounding parts etc. No flexing here - that is just where I have my car parked. Lol… and yes, I bumped the hood because I wasn’t paying attention and trying to film a good video. Ughhh

Arguably IF a lower CCA battery is significantly lighter weight any you dont drive in extreme weather? And the forums confirm it will work? Personally I think that is a legitimate thing to consider especially if it is significantly less money....just ALWAYS buying MORE battery because "more is better"? LOL the Porsche engineers already carefully specified a battery to basically cover worse case crap so WHY do I want to overkill on that? Especially if it is gonna weigh more? Okay for my pick up truck? sure I care less but a SPORTS car I want to avoid adding pork to unless it REALLY improves handling or power or something....my 2 cents....personally I think a Cayman is worthy of a lightweight lithium battery that meets specs.....why not?

Battery replacement worked out great for me
@dougiequick18 ай бұрын
LOL a battery that meets specification ? How ya gonna argue much with that unless there is a run of defects? Basically batteries are batteries....simple to replace I dont understand anyone being happy to pay $475 to have their Cayman's battery replaced? I buy 3 year warranted batteries and they tend to last 5 years but IF by chance one actually only lasted 3 years? who cares. And hey I go MANUAL transmission anyway which means I can PUSH start the little bugger
