Omg yes! Thank you for posting this! It's criminal that Daedalus just auto installs to C: in a somewhat hidden location, not allowing the user to pick another drive. Everyone obvs has a drive for the OS and drive(s) for everything else.

I tried to do this on my Mac via instructions I found online ... didnt work. The develpoers should just add the option to change the drive thru the UI

So my problem is that I don't have enough space on my disk where my AppData is located. I install Deadalus already but I want the blocks that are syncing (All these 150GB) to be on my bigger disk (From C to D) Should I first wait to be fully synced or I can do the steps before already 100% synced.

I started a new install with the symblolic link setup from the start so it would sync on the other drive

What if I wanted to move my whole wallet to a different computer along with that 150GB worth of data? Do I just copy that mainnet folder over once I have my wallet downloaded to the new computer?

yeh its just the data db folder that you need. You don't need the app itself. Install on the new computer and copy over the database folder and you'll be good.

I followed your instruction and it worked fine. However, two days ago I updated Daedalus to the latest version and as of that time replaying ledger from on-disk blockchain got stuck at 99.9%. I turned it off and tried again several times but Replaying ledger from on-disk blockchain never got to 100% but kept hanging at 30 or 40%. Do you have any suggestion how to solve this?

Mine is stalling at the moment too, so I cant answer this for you until I work it out for myself.

This fixed disk space. Not sync speed. A full sync will still take 1.5 days on my home internet connection.

my AppData/Local folder also has a bunch of data from Daedalus. Can we move that as well?

You only need the db folder. Just sum link that as I’ve outlined in the video as I don’t know how symlinking it all will affect Daedalus operations

It sounds like a file wasn’t copied in the process. The lock file tells Daedalus it’s processing or syncing. It may have been not copied as you didn’t have system rights to do so. Try again and make sure you have admin rights enabled when copying.

I have installed a fresh version of Daedalus on to another drive but it still adds the state folder to the Roaming directory. Any idea why this is?

That is correct. The data of the app will always be installed in the roaming app data folder. You need to sym link it to another location.

For some reason the last step is not working for me. When I copy and paste the command under "create symbolic link" and replace the D for the drive I copied to. It prompts "cannot create a file when that file already exists" which is weird since I am trying to link not create :/

The folder is still there. The existing folder needs to be moved and then renamed so it isn’t there. I added a - to the name incase I needed it again if it didn’t work. Once it worked I deleted afterwards

Ah yes I suppose I had to rename it for it to work. This process was quite delicate. Before renaming I actually had to enter task manager and end task of daedalus mainnet in a background process that was running as well. Otherwise it would not let me rename. ALSO, I went back and looked at my C: drive under storage and it seems to have freed up some space. But only about 6GB or so. Better then nothing but I guess I was expecting the 166GB range. It should stay as it was. Just the data is stored somewhere else as opposed to the original location

Having an issue restarting Daedalus after creating the symbolic link. Remove the symbolic link and restore the folder. In the video I set it up in a way that I could revert if I had to by renaming the folder that’s in the app user folder

Symlink doesn't work on Linux (Ubuntu). App launcher understands, that symlink is not a directory, and tries to create directory. But it can't create a directory with the name of already existing file and the launch fails with th error.

So you've synced, moved all assets off and now want to get rid of Daedalus? If so, there is an uninstaller OR delete that Daedalus AppData folder.

nope, even if you install it on other drive it always goes to appdata folder

Nope. It used the user account App data folder to manage the sync data. It will always try and store the block chain in the main user directory
