Hey I'ma first timer gna get cheapest bike possible but which may end up being a Honda shadow 700 2000s.. I wanted to replace the seat with a long flat and put a cafe style rear front fender on would I have to have the end of the bike raised ? To fit that flat seat I see pictures but don't know how ppl do it... I want to the handle bars n everything else to stay the same
@MotoMango Жыл бұрын
@@geronimo9193 Usually have to modify the frame to have an aftermarket seat look good. If you don't wanna fabricate, you can have a custom seat made

I just purchased a 1982 cm450, thanks for sharing , now I know how to change the oil. I've got a long ways to go, it needs a good bit of work, but I figure a $100 was Worth the investment

@@MotoMango well I discovered that I can't get it to go into neutral and the sprocket won't turn. But the clutch cable is froze up, could that be an issue, I'm mechanically inclined but never really fooled with a motorcycle internal parts but I'm fixing to learn, because I'm very motivated to fully restore this bike.
@tommyconner14672 жыл бұрын
@@MotoMango hey do you know where I could find the side covers, the ones that cover the battery and the one on the left side.
@tommyconner14672 жыл бұрын
@@MotoMango well I mess with the bike today got it to spin over with the switch and all the lights work as they should, the reason it wouldn't go in neutral, was the chain had rusted to the point it was stiff. I ended up removing side cover and then I had to remove the sprocket, I got some more stuff to do before I start it. But I found out mine is the 450e the economy version. Which is ok with me. I just love this more and more, I'm getting more excited about the full restoration. Hopefully I can find all the parts needed.
@MotoMango2 жыл бұрын
Well that's best case scenario! Super easy fix. Mine is also a cm450e. I think all the 450s were the economy sub-models.

Thanks @MotoMango for the clear step by step! Any chance anybody might have a link for where to get the filter, o ring and gasket online in Canada? or at least the part number that would get me on the right track? (I'm brand new to motorcycles let alone the retro stuff so apologies for the ignorance)

Are you able to order from 4into1.com ? That's where I ordered everything I needed. Partzilla is another good one but I don't know if international shipping changes any of that

Where would you get the replacement o rings? Can you use Viton cord instead? Would any gasket I find work as long as it's made of a durable material?
@MotoMango Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've made my own gaskets before by cutting them out from sheets of gasket material. Cmsnl.com is a good place for OEM parts like piston rings and other internal parts. Idk about using viton cord though

Being a girl my biggest problem is some of the bolts seem over tight, just like you said haha. Any tips for getting the 17” off if its really tough? Not quite strong enough!
@MotoMango2 жыл бұрын
YES! If you add a breaker bar to the wrench you'll get more torque/leverage to be able to break the bolt loose. Find something long that fits over your wrench (I use the lever from my jack stand because it's just a long steel tube) and use that as the lever to turn the wrench. Hopefully this makes sense and helps. Let me know!

@@MotoMango makes me wish I had my first bike, 76’ CB400F Super Sport, 4 into 1 and 6 gears stock. Breezed through my MC license test (in 82’ lol) while others struggled. One guy was on a Wing, can you imagine trying to weave that hog through a course. I’m wanting a dual sport, they are the wave of the future I think. Especially at 60 mpg and gas at $4.
