Thank you for helping us ! One minor thing: if you put gear control on the " H " position, engine will be freed from ECU drive control, and you can start engine for an undefined amount of time. NIce job !!!

Exactly! And this is very practical for checking the oil level after renewing your motor oil… Start the engine for 10 second without accelerating, stop it, wait 5 minutes and check the oil level.

Great overview. Thanks. But I wonder why the dipstick and the filler lid wasn't loosened before emptying out the oil. Also jacking it up on an angle that helps the oil not completely empty out of the bottom tray.

So I'm watching your video and thinking, this is great, finally someone is showing how to do this, and what oil filter wrench is best. Then you pan up and I see my car across the road!!! 🤣 😂
@SuperVitz
@SuperVitz 2 жыл бұрын
Good video, but a few minor points. That universal oil filter wrench is for removing spin on filters, there is a specific Toyota/Lexus oil filter tool for these, it's a cup wrench. That plastic pipe thing that comes with the new filter is for the models that have a metal canister oil filter with a bolt in the bottom, the plastic thing punches into the old filter and allows the filter to drain out before you fully remove it. Also don't put the filter element on the gravelly ground!
@Endfloat
@Endfloat 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I knew about the special tool, but I prefer to show how to do these jobs with the tools the average Joe has at home rather than special tools. And yes, I dropped the ball by putting the filter on the ground. Thanks for the info about the other little piece.

Nice job! How about a brakes job? I have to change front & rear rotors and pads and could use some tips. Ordered TRW parts and a L/R hand piston press, since I understand the rotation direction differs in the rear calipers. Now the rotors are unevenly worn out (inside less contact with pads, much rust) and a grinding noise is there. The rear pads seem to be sticking. Have to do a thorough cleaning and greasing of the sliding bolts. Just bought the car (TS 2014) at 82.500 km and want to offer it a chance to start a new life with us 😊. Changed oil with Toyota 0w20 AFE, filters, and purchased new spark plugs. (Denso SC20HR11 are no longer available, found a Toyota note in the Denso catalogue saying they've been replaced by SC16HR11 since 2017 so I got these). Only need an articulated thin wall 14mm spark plug socket. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks. If I ever end up doing a job on the brakes on this car, I'll be sure to do a video on it. Just make sure your sliding pins are correctly lubricated. That could be the cause of your problem. Thanks for the info regarding the spark plugs.

@@Endfloat I believe on our car it is in the footwell of the left rear passenger seat behind a vent. The seat needs to be lifted and then the panel pulled away after removing the clips. Apparently the leading cause of battery failure is them overheating because this filter gets blocked. I collect my car on sat and will be trying to do this myself. Really should be included in the services though.

@@Steven-qi4gm it happened to me once that I got a message on the front display to service the hybrid system and it was related to dusted battery fan. I think there is some airflow sensor. Good to check that once per 40-50kkm. More often if you drive with windows opened and/or having a dog travelling.

@@mareksz.5693 yes, I have the Corolla and not auris now and I check it and found it to be clear. When I had it in for service last week they did say they clean it as part of the service. Hi pal, random question. When you press the brake pedal do you feel any vibration at all? Mine vibrates a little bit like abs would in a normal car. I put it down to it being the engine braking of the hybrid, but now I’m starting to doubt it, I’ve only had it a week.

@@Endfloat It takes much more tools, time, and how it can go wrong. Especially in QuickLube, Walmart, etc. They can mess it up too easily. With good oldstyle can type, only idiot can make it wrong. Usually by not tighten it strong enough and puke all oil out in few seconds and burn the engine. I know personally, 3-4 cases from rookies DIY and careless lube-shop.

1. who jacks a car up by a suspension component, how is this safe...it can easily slide as it is a suspension component which is made to move... 2. where is the old oil drain plug washer gone ? i see something stuck to the sump but , this car comes with a so called toyota blue washer ... 3. you are not using the correct wrench for that plastic housing probably twisting it every time, this will cause material fatigue and warping and will some day become impossible to untwist...
