wish you would have mentioned a cautionary note to make sure you can loosen the top (add) bolt before you start draining. i see you did, but you didn't mention its importance.

Just did this job this to my wife's MDX that has almost 200K on the odometer. The "I broke the plugs loose earlier," is truly lame and deprives the audience of some very high quality entertainment. Those suckers can be frozen pretty solid. You can skin up your knuckles pretty nicely as well as display a broad range of vocabulary whilst breaking them loose. Keeping that material off camera is really a disservice to your audience.

My manual says to use atf fluid in the rear diff. 2010 acura mdx here. Otherise good video, very thouroughl! Thanks

The manual was printed long ago, Acura has now changed to DPSF fluid. Do not use atf.

Use what the manual says, there can be parts/equipment changes during the year, like in 2001 MDX, the first 9 months they used a GM-transmission until Acura could fix their trans. problems , so there would have likely been 2 types of rear diff. fluid for Acura mdx in the 2001 model year. READ your MANUAL ! Good video, mention the size of crush washers next time: I think they are 18 and 20 mm. each. Tx.

Yes for every last drop, I mean you might have 5% of the old fluid in there but not really a big deal, the drain plug is magnetic to capture the metal shavings. He did put some fresh fluid in there to "flush" out some of the remaining old oil.

2007 Acura MDX uses Honda ATF-Z1 supersedes to Honda ATF-DW1 for the rear differential. DPSF is the wrong fluid for this vehicle

Are you sure? 2011 MDX (same generation) manual says: Rear Differential Fluid: Use Acura All-Wheel Drive Fluid (DPSF) only. Capacity: SH-AWD differential case 2.6 US qt (2.5 L)

Nope, it does not use ATF-Z1 anymore. Honda has discontinued AFT-Z1 fluid both for the rear diff and transmission since 2010, and now ATF-DW-1 is used for transmission and DPSFII is for the rear diff. Hope this helps.

No, that fluid is Acura DPSF, which is backwards compatible with differentials running ATF DW-1

Stephen Krause most are pretty bad. Sufficient, but not great. Sub out for amsoil or Simular, not much more, and they work far better and last longer.

philip dias the factory fluids are literally made for that system. honda/acura design the fluids to work best with their vehicles. amsoil and w.e else didn't design the awd system so I'm pretty sure honda knows best

+Stephen Krause I agree. Engineers design the AWD and the specific fluid to accompany THEIR system.

Because they are engineered specifically for this vehicle/type of differential and as with most things for Acuras, they are the best bang for your buck.
