How to change the wheels on Trackmaster 2 engines

Great info here, I never knew how to pull the end of the axle off. I never guessed it was just a interference fit. I have a few old Tomy trains that don't go and now I see a purpose for them. What I have noticed with the later Thomas toys is they have made them far more difficult to pull apart. This mod looks pretty difficult, but I have learned a lot from seeing what you came up against.

leokimvideo Hi Leo, The talking engines are by far the most difficult but regular engines take 1/2 the time and there is minimal trimming of the inside of the shell depending on the loco. I recently did the new Ryan and he waddles a bit but runs fantastically with new wheels otherwise.

Charlie Young I agree, I think they are getting broke or lazy. I think Plarail trains are more worth than these trackmaster 2s. Because Plarail only need one C/AA battery while Trackmaster needs 2 AAA battery. Which you will eventually spend more money on battery for the trackmaster 2

I modded a Kenji by prying off his nylon tyres and then supergluing on Tomy tyres. He went from being the worst engine to the best…

Hey Ucwepn would it be possible to do a vice versa of this. Basically fitting 2.0 wheels on a 1.0 engine. Cause I have a Trackmaster 1.0 Duke that I want to make work better on my layout. It just uses black wheels I think. So if I have a set of 2.0 black wheels would I be able to fit them on to Duke?

Hi the front wheels on TM2 are smaller than the old wheels, if you change only the rear wheels then the rear will sit higher by a few mm and look slightly wrong in my eyes :) Hope this cleared it up for you.

Hi All Trackmaster 2 are a direct drive gear set from the motor straight to the rear axle so none of them can free roll even with new wheels.
