Why does only one of the pre-amp tubes have a cover?

It sounds a little warmer with those Tungsols. There is plenty of treble available with that amp so it would get more tone options. Also, it's good to try jumping inputs in every configuration, that will help dialing in your tone - depending on the volume you're playing at, it changes a lot.

This is great, thanks for filming this! I just bought a SV20 and it was delivered today. Unfortunately I'm getting a lot of squealing whenever I crank the gain on the high treble channel, so I'm thinking the tubes are needing changed (possibly damaged in transit). I'll most likely order the exact same tubes you have as the sound clip at the end of your video sounds great. Can I ask why you didn't change the 3rd preamp tube located in the middle of chassis? Thanks in advance.

Its not a preamp tube its phase splitter. Preamp tubes affect mostly to the tone and the original was in perfect condition so I didnt change it. The idea was to use milder preamp tubes since the high treble channel gives overdrive early with my Les Paul. Pre amp tubes are usually located closest to inputs. Power amp tubes dont make as big difference to the tone but I just wanted to try out Tung Sols on power amp since Ive liked them before. Nothing wrong with the stock tubes. Do you have a warranty on your amp? Maybe you could get a new one or this one fixed so you didnt have to spend money on an amplifier you already bought? Good luck. :)

I bought mine from sweetwater and the v1 was damaged. I replaced it with a genalex 12ax7 and have not been happier

Following up on Fraser’s question... can you also change the phase splitter tube? I was about to order three 12x7/ecc83s and figured I’d just change them all out since they’re not particularly expensive.

Hello! I’m from Mexico and recently I get this amp but de current is 230v and In my country the current is 110v. My question is: this amp has any option to change the 230v voltage to 110v with a internal conection? Any years before this happend with another speaker and I only had to change a little wire inside of this speaker. Thanks!

Hi, do you know if this amp needs to be re biased or can you just replace the valves. Thanks

I tell that at the start of the video. :D This amp is cathode biased so you can just replace the valves.

You can touch an amplifier if it the power cord is unplugged.

As long as you stay away from the large capacitors on the inside like he mentioned. They store voltage even when the cable is unplugged!

From what others have said, ALL the tubes in these amps are JJ's. I tried a bunch of different brand power tubes including an expensive vintage NOS set, and the winner of all that money spent were the original stock JJ's.

This JJ ECC83MG is pretty nice product. It tames the early break up a little with this amp. I found out that with Les Paul SV20 gives grit too early for my use.

I actually am liking some grey glass vintage RCA 6V6 in mine, less spiky. I've you have any 6V6 around, try it.

Like I explained during the video mg is a lower output model tube than the original which was the wanted feature with this swap. JJ has various different ecc83s.
