I have a 97 Lumina with the 3100. I drained the coolant using the radiator drain and it worked perfectly. This is my second water pump replacement on this vehicle.

had alligator style clamps ended up just taking pump off it was messy but it 8s in and working great and now m9r leaks. This video helped and great tip for the bleed valves.

Just a side note . The auto shop near me wanted $300 to do this job. Definitely was not going to pat that. Did this job from start to finish in probably less than 2 hours. For those of you that have a chevy lumina, Pray you never have to replace the brake booster. If your master cylinder is leaking replace it asap so it wont ruin your booster. It is a newer jacked up twist on ,and off design. I havent done mine yet but there arent alot of videos of how to take it off and on. The booster cost is only about $130. Shops quoted me between $615 and $750 to have this done thats with them using a booster that they obtained.

Did this job many years ago, never opened those little bleeder valves oops! Car ran fine and got totalled about a year after the pump replacement so who cares! I always run them with the rad cap off and just add as it circulates and gets the bubbles out. After like 10 mins or so its uaually good and pouring out due to expansion and i just throw the lid on and top off the overflow and call it a day

Work on this engine is so easy compared to some other engines, I think the hardest thing I came across on lumina was a fuel pump or the front ball joints cause there riveted into the strut

No, mine wasn't leaking from the pump. The pump was making obnoxious whining sound

Maaaaan you saved my ass, I didn't bleed the system while i was changing the thermostat 😭😭😭 just closed it filled the coolant reservoir and went for a drive later was okay but it was idling and the temperature went higher than was with old Thermostat 😭😭😭 Fckk

Pump mount bolts 89 foot pounds, pulley bolts only 18 foot lbs.👍
