You need to study the history... what was the culture at that time , was ABSOLUTELY NORMAL to people at that time.So you will find, everyone was following that custom whether Muslims or non-Muslims & if anyone didn't follow their usual way of either marriage, or any other behavior of their own...would be the odd one out. Now... sunhaanALLAAH, puberty shows that the body is ready to reproduce but a marriage is invalid without the girl's permission. She CAN nullify it if the marriage was against her will...now please don't bring today's culture of force marriage to blame the absolute perfect way of life..islaam. Yes people are still doing it in the name of islaam...but ISLAAM stays as pure as it was,as it is & it will be forever. Alhamdulillaah.
