Opening the oil cap on top let's air in as the oil leaves the bottom so you don't get the *glug glug* thing going on and making a mess.

Yeah, I noticed how quick and clean it came out doing it this way.

Great video. I first loosen the filter (to make sure I can remove it) and then I punch a hole with an ice pick on the bottom and let it drain. It's much less of a mess that way. UPDATE: I just did an oil change tried this. It worked but didn't completely drain the oil so when I removed the filter, same mess!! Next time I'll make the hole bigger so it completely drains.

Thanks! Oil filter got me as well.

After loosening the filter (just to make sure you can get it off), poke a hole in the bottom of the filter with an ice pick or something sharp and let it drain completely. Much cleaner job.

I did this.. had to go get a filter remover tool from Walmart (like under $6) the angled channel lock looking tool It worked really well, the filter was totally too tight. I tried to torque wrench the 17mm (11/16) bolt.. it wouldn't click damn it I think I really ended up tightened that bolt too much. Anyway.. the 4 & 1/2 quarts in, got the car level (I guess) ran it for about 15 minutes.. let it sit a bit.. and the dipstick still shows only the very bottom wet with oil! I'll let it run a bit longer I guess? Does this car have to be absolutely spot on level?

As long as it stays in between the dots or markings on the dipstick you should be good.

My cover plate is long gone, probably some 5 minute oil change place. Do you have the terrible rattle on cold start yet? Liked and subscribed!
@hardatwork8 ай бұрын
Thank you. No, that hasn’t happened. Does that happen to yours?
@davekana83888 ай бұрын
@@hardatwork mine is a 2012 with 124K, yes, not every cold start. There’s a spring in the cam gear that loses pressure and doesn’t hold the oil. Check out CVT.

@@davekana8388I get that as well with my 2013. Someone said it could be the timing chain
@rgraz49292 ай бұрын
Sounds like your VTC Actuator.
@shingdao715 күн бұрын
@@davekana8388 This is a known issue with the VTC actuator on 4th gen CRVs and if left for too long it could cause the timing chain to stretch out. The fix is to replace the actuator if the timing chain is not stretched. There are mixed reviews on replacing the OEM VTC actuator spring with an aftermarket spring with higher tension as a fix for the rattle but seems about 50/50 as a permanent fix.

did you back off the ramps with engine on and no oil? 😀 im always paranoid i'll do that.
@hardatwork Жыл бұрын
No I just put it in neutral. I didn’t turn the engine on. That wouldn’t be good lol
