You can do it without spirit level. Bubble should remain centered 360 deg. If it is, you're good.

This proves itself out. Rotate the pole 360 deg while staying in the same location and watch your bubble, this will be your visual, let you see for yourself the quality of the calibration.

You come with a second spirit level to level the first spirit level to level the pogo if that makes sense 😂

I screw the top of my prism pole to a point that alows the rod to hang freely and rotate any direction. I wait for it to stop swinging so its plum to ground. If bubble is off i adjust. Maybe im wrong but this video seems too much

Why are you adding the piece of rubber band?

Paul Davidson, we use the rubber band as a pivot point and to add resistance against the screws. It makes it much easier to calibrate the bubble.

This method works but is a lot more convoluted than necessary. Bubble vials are self checking, you can check/fix their calibration without other accessories like the spirit level

yeah but this actually takes time out of it if the bubble vial is not in the same plane as the pole. you have to have a guaranteed starting point. I received a new fixed height tripod the spirit level said was out of level when the bubble level said it was. use the spirit level then adjust the bubble to it. after a few adjustments to the bubble level everything talked. I thought the same thing you just said but after chasing my tail for about 10 minutes i realized the pole and the bubble level were not on the same plane. the only way to do this is with a spirit level.

My Land was previously surveyed by someone who used a plumb bob too. It turned out that day it was really windy. :) JK... I do enjoy using a PB. I have worked with many old time surveyors that would fire anyone who didn't keep a consistent bob.
