For those who want to know... the 2013 GMC Terrain with the 4cyl ECOTEC has electric power steering....... no power steering fluid to add or check. Also I have a 2013 Terrain with the 4cyl ECOTEC and their is no trans dipstick, but does have a black trans fill cap back behind and down under the battery. There is a trans level check plug under the vehicle on drivers side... access it through the left front wheel well. The drain plug is on the bottom of the trans and no filter to change.

The V6 have a transmission dipstick to the right front, just beside the battery. Does have a hot & cold level.

I have a 2011 Terrain 4c. My engine burns oil real bad. I have to add oil. But my dipstick never reads oil on it but I know it has oil. It caused me to over fill it one time. Any clue why my dipstick won’t read the oil level?

good question I had same issue no oil on dipstick totally dry!! added like 2 quarts to show up on dipstick im confused whats going on

@@nickr3441 the 4 cylinder EcoTech engines have a timing chain issue where the guides wear out prematurely and cause excess slack on the chain. You can usually hear it slapping when the vehicle is at idle. This causes excessive oil consumption. GM extended the engine warranty to cover this issue and will do a top end replacement if under 100,000 miles.

Some terrains have dipsticks for the transmission. Why assume they are all sealed units that can only be checked by the dealer. I was trying to find out if I check with engine on or off.

The steering fluid is low on all these 3.6L Terrain/Equinox/SRX vehicles because the steering power pump leaks on all of them...

Nick R You can, just you need to unbolt the drain bolt and then fill (different location) until an infrequent stream comes out the drain bolt

You take out the plug on the drivers side by the axle as the engine is running and warmed up. If it's low there's a fill plug on the top of the transmission fill it till fluid starts coming out of the plug on the side of the drivers side axle. If it's overfull let it pour out until it's a dribble then replace the plug then your done!

Power steering fluid for a terrain is dex VI, NOT power steering fluid.

@@BigBigPlans I asked GM dealers mechanic about 6 mo ago when I was having an oil change on my 2.4 (4cyl) and he told me it was a sealed unit and I didnt have to worry about it. I really have no idea but thats what i was told

There is no dipstick on a 2013 Terrain with the 4cyl ECOTEC, it has a level check plug on lower side of trans drivers side.
