I found a video online a while back that shows you how to use your oil dipstick to measure the trans fluid level. Worked for my caliber. If i can locate it again ill drop a link for it. I think autozone now carries a universal type trans dipstick. I think theyre around $30.00. Good luck

I have a '08 and had it for 4 years now and is my daily driver. Haven't had too many problems with the motor but the suspension system has been fully replaced and i did it myself. I dont have tons of money so this ia what i have and have to maintenance it.

Great explaining and showing the drain plug and where to admit the tranny fluid , and the correct tranny fluid I think an old man at my job just screwed his tranny on his over filled I told him you can’t just fill it like the old days lol.

If the engine isn't running while filling the transmission, you will be very low on fluid, and will damage your new/used transmission. FILL WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING!!!

I was told from someone that works on transmissions that my unit is a sealed unit and it's meant for the life of the car? So is this correct or do you have to change it?

That is correct it's not supposed to be serviced however you can service it has a filter and everything. There's just special procedures to follow

@nickgurlpa no I don't think that service is any issue. But mileage is. I don't think that I have ever seen a CVT last much longer than 150,000 to 175,000. This particular one was a really bad design. Also it's been my experience that no one will work on them. It will probably have to be replaced.

What's that sensor or cable above the plug hole, my dodge caliber just broke down yesterday leaking a bunch of oil from there and idk what piece that is

its a sealed transmission you have to take to the dealer. these are notorious for overheating transmissions. my grandma has one she bought used and they drove 3 hours away and it overheated 5 times. they're limping it back home, she's trading it in tomorrow. things keep going wrong with it. Trash vehicle

I found out that there are 2 filters on the transmission, one in the pan and one in the auxiliary oil cooler underneath the battery. Most people don't know about the second one. If it's never been changed, that's probably the culprit. These are "sealed", but it isn't hard to drain the pan and change the filters. Hardest part is to take off the old pan gasket. Just did it on my uncles 2008 dodge caliber and it stopped overheating. Make sure you change the o- ring on the auxiliary oil cooler

DO NOT DO THIS! The transmision will be over 2 qts low! Thats not what that plug is for. Total rebuild requires 10.4 qts. Filter change requires 4 to 5 qts. Buy a dip stick and check it properly while the engine is running.
