You said the KTM's were really good motors. I would agree!! Rode with a guy last week who's got a 2016 250 xcf-w, he's got 426 hours on it, and swears he's never even checked the valves. It starts and runs perfect. WOW 😳...changes his oil and filter every 10 hours and cleans his air filter almost after every ride. That's a testament to what you always say. Oil and air filter!!!! Thanks for all the videos!!!

Dude same story here!!! I got a 2007 300xc that I swiped from some retired dentist at a truck stop and have never had to adjust the valves in all these years!! Legendary! But I do always keep my air filters clean and lubed with rotella. So there's that

Pretty sure a 300xc doesn't have valves.

@@johnmerritt6670 yeah huh! There built right into the cam chain tensioner, next to the dihydrogen monoxide reservoir that feeds the flasher relay, 28 torx, thank me later... Those wacky Australians, what are they going to think of next?!

Hey mate am new to the channel and can say you’re very good at your job, I’ve recently blown my 22 sxf 350 and wondering if you’ve got any newer model top end rebuilds. Love your work 👍👍

Can I assume (other than the spec #’s) this is same tip/procedure for 450/500’s? Thanks Morgan!

You ever come across a modern ktm two stroke that makes a knocking or clanking noise from front of engine? It's not real loud and doesn't do it all the time. I took off pipe and PV covers, everything was tight. Bike only has 6 hrs on it. Pretty sure it's something to do with power valve, doesn't make the noise revving in neutral.

I haven’t see. That. I might check the counter balancer and the nuts that hold everything tight

You sure it isn't that normal KTM 2 stroke ping? My 2016 250 XCW did that from new. Never had an issue with it.

Sorry I didn't read the entire message. Doesn't do it while revving in neutral.

You correctly explained the reason for the gap and what to measure but muddied the water by stating to measure between the lobe and followser. Incorrect measurements. You've made the mistake many do. The measurement is between the valve shim and follower. NOT between the lobe and follower/arm. The gap as you said is for thermal expansion on the engine and valve stem which is why that gap is measured. There is insignificant thermal expansion of the lobe. So the lobe to arm measurement is meaningless. People also probably take this measurement because it is easier. I've gone round with another KZbin "mechanic" about this. An ex nationally rank pro dirt bike racer who runs his own school, a motorcycle mechanic and a Rocky Mountain ATV video agree with what valve is to be measured. Perhaps you misspoke or I incorrectly interpreted what you said. I've done top end engine rebuilds as well. It's the valve to arm, or whatever one wants to call it, that is measured. Appreciate your efforts.

I must have missed spoke. I always measure between shim and follower. But… what about on a shim under bucket setup. You have to measure between bucket and lobe.

@@highlandcyclesYou didn’t misspoke. You can clearly see that you used your feeler gauge in between the cam and the cam lever. Which is exactly what it states and shows to do in the manual. Why are you retracting what you did based upon someone commenting on your work?
@highlandcycles
@highlandcycles 3 ай бұрын
@@RacingThroughReality I really thought I had spoken wrong this was quite a while ago. And I really do try to get between the shim and follower when I can but I also don’t think it really matters. That’s why I asked the question at the end of that last reply.
