How to Choose a Perch For Your Bird | Bird Care

Watch this video and you will know how to choose a perch for your bird! A proper parrot perch is number one when it comes to bird care. Birds can develop foot issues if not given a variety of perches to choose from in their cage. When getting a bird, it's essential you do your research on everything bird care. It's also good to know rope perches can be dangerous and not for most birds. Birds can ingest the rope and can become impacted and require surgery. I only use rope perches for my handicapped birds that I know do not eat the rope!

I have a wire flat perch and I put a thick piece of news paper with a wooden clip thing I get at my local bird shop . My birds like to rip up the paper and I change it out about once a week .. Thank you for educating me about perches ! Now my birds feet will be happy

This is a wonderful video and very informative. I too believe birds should have places where they can rest their feet from perching. All my little sugar pops have flat areas too and when its night-night, they all go into their houses to rest their feeties and dream.

They shouldn’t have flat perches .what if the the bird always chooses the flat perch? your bird will have pressure points ..not great advise tbh ..

But aren't sand perches bad for their feet? I read it could create sores and if they get cut from it there could be possible infections if not treated? I'm still confused as to whether they are good or not.

Desiree Cossio In the video I said "Place your bird's sand perch in a place your bird doesn't sit all day long", "Possibly place a sand perch by their food bowl." Put the comfiest perch in a spot your bird sit and sleeps the most. Sand perches are wonderful for birds to sit "part time". Especially a blessing for birds like my Thomas who has seizures and cannot be groomed.
