I have a Norwegian, Saxony and eel. They all do their special thing but I’d think the eel was my fave which is so weird since I love the traditional/non electric look!! I spin wool for sock and weaving, cotton for rags. I couldn’t comment on your video content since it isn’t closed captioned. Anyways stay cool literally and figuratively:)

My family bought me a 2nd hand Ashford Traveller for Mother’s Day this year. I hadn’t spun anything for over 20 years and was never an expert. I love the old fashioned feel, flexibility and was blown away by how easy this wheel was to use as an essentially novice spinner. It’s scotch tension and single treadle. By the way I love how practical your channel is. You’ve helped me a lot as I fumble my way through 🥰

Right now my dream wheel is the lendrum castle double treadle. That is if I got a new one. Right now I have a castle Cassandra double treadle. My sister got it for me for Christmas one year. The primary reason was price and similarity to the lendrum. Adjustable height on it was another factor and working with Dave, the builder of the wheel, was incredible. Once I got it home I made a couple adjustments. One was reducing the orifice size and adding more hooks to stop the lumps was another. The Cassandra and I have become one in tandem over the he years. I love it. I would start this way again and again.

In January I was given a 30 year old Schacht Matchless from someone who was downsizing and wanted it to go to a good home. 💕 Congrats on 2,000 subscribers! I am Joes spouse and I have spun years ago, gave it up for some time, sold my traditional wheel and accessories and now am currently waiting for a Kromski Minstrel (unfinished) wheel with a jumbo flyer, (on back order till next month!) I would like to be able to spin fine, medium and craft wool. I am inspired about adding beads and other adornments from watching your great you tube tutorials, I have learned so much watching them! Thank You. :)

I just received my first spinning wheel from my parents for my 50th birthday! I received a Kromski Prelude and I absolutely love it! It took me about a week to work the treadle and tension enough to spin and I am spinning my first roving. Eventually I would like to raise my own fiber animals or grow flax and spin linen. But for now I will enjoy spinning fiber for my crochet and knit projects. Thank you for your videos! They have been so helpful in getting starting and problem solving! And congrats on reaching 2000 subscribers!

I have 3 wheels. My first one I dreamt the night before I was going to find a wheel. My sister and I were garage sale and I had just told her about my dream. Minutes later, there she was!!! An Ashford Traveller. She is great. Then, at my guild, a few years later, I tried a Majacraft Rose. Tell in love! Finally, always wanted to try a saxony. Found an Ashford Traditional on Craig's List. Each one of my wheels has her own personality. I love them all!

I've had my Ashford Kiwi 3 for 15 months and I've only been spinning for a little over 2 years. My Kiwi is my first and only wheel; it's the only wheel I've really spun on. I absolutely love it though! It was so easy to learn on, and it's allowed me to grow as a spinner. I've never felt limited by it and it lets me spin the kind of yarn I want to make and knit with. I feel completely in tune with my Kiwi and I don't think I could ever part with it. I don't feel a need to get another wheel, but I would consider getting a double drive wheel someday if I came across a good deal. Congrats on 2K subscribers! I love your channel, and your cheery, happy personality is the best. It really brightens my day!

Hi Deanna, I just bought a Kiwi 3. I first took a quick class and worked on a Kiwi 2. I didn’t pay attention from lack of knowledge and lack of research, but the flyer is different and it was an impulse buy, which I usually don’t do. It doesn’t have hooks and it is really hard to slide the springs up and down the rod. Did you happen to put any grease on the metal rods? I have arthritis in my thumb joint and I find when I pinch it together, it hurts my hand. Also, did you happen to buy the accessory flyer to make art yarn? I want to make art yarn, so I should have bought the Lendrum Original complete package...much better deal for a wide variety of spinning...but they unfortunately don’t have the hooks on the flyer either. I can’t figure out why the flyer design was ever changed from the hooks...must be a good reason? Anyway, happy spinning to you! I just started and there is so much to learn. I am so glad I found JillianEve!

@@traceytowner176 Hi Tracy! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the sliding hooks on your wheel. I've never oiled the arms of my flyer and I'm not sure if that would help or hurt something. I remember when I first got my wheel, the springs were a bit stiff and harder to move, but over time they've loosened up. You could try taking the sliding hooks off the flyer arms and (if you can) maybe try squeezing them together to loosen the springs a bit to make it easier to slide them up and down the arms. Or maybe you could try using one of those tools that help open bottles; that might help to pinch the springs together and move them. I think sliding hooks have become quite popular since they allow people to fill their bobbins more evenly. But now see how it can cause trouble for people. I hope there might still be a way for you to use your wheel without causing yourself pain. If not, I've heard reselling a wheel could get you most of your money back. Since I only knit and crochet (no weaving yet), I haven't had a desire to make art/textured yarns, but I did get the super flyer thinking I would use it for plying. But I found that it actually has an Irish tension (tensioned over the flyer orifice and drive band on the bobbin), which just isn't for me. If you want to make art/textured yarn though, I bet it would definitely be a nice accessory. Sorry for such a long reply and I hope some of that was helpful!

@@deannagreenwood7257 Thank you so much Deanna. Hopefully they will loosen with time. I would love to get into art yarns and weaving for textured wall hangings...down the road if it is at all possible. I also knit and crochet and I am looking forward to the day I can spin a fairly consistent ply!

I have a classic Ashford. My favorite part of it is the story of how we met. I saw her at a garage sale and left her there, as I did not spin at the time. Went home and mentioned to my husband the spinning wheel I did not get. It cost $5. He told me to go back and buy it for decoration. I bicycled back to that house and the wheel was put away and the people were leaving (moving out). They dug out the wheel again and even a batt of wool they had just thrown into a garbage dumpster. I got the wheel and tried a few times to learn to spin but never somehow learned. However, I am at it again, and will persevere! Thanks Eve for inspiring me!

I have 4 wheels a e spinner, a antique wheel, Ashford traditional and my first and most loved a Ashford kiwi. I painted my kiwi wheel a duck egg blue and painted daisy's around it, although a none expensive wheel it is by far my most used and loved. I also upgraded it with the super fast whorl and also the jumbo flyer. I have created many of skeins on it and will continue to use and enjoy for many years I'm sure.

I bought a schacht ladybug spinning wheel a decade ago. I was a pretty plain jane spinner for most of that time. I used the settings that it started with, like the default drive method and whorl. It was so relaxing and I loved how chill it felt, and I could mostly customize my knitted projects which was amazing. My favorite scarf was made with it. Then I got arthritis and I couldn't spin anymore, for about 5 years. This year my symptoms are finally being treated and I'm so excited to get back to it as a more mature and experimental crafter! I have already bought the stuff to try double drive and all that it entails. I also have several bins full of fibre, as well as one with a whole baby alpaca fleece that I'm going to bust open!

Hi there! I just startex spinning in a drop spindle I bought off Amazon Homemade. I'm very new, but I'm already in love! I've been eyeing small, portable wheels since I rent an apartment and don't have much room, but I also want to be able to take my wheel with me, both to see my family and take part in LARP events. It would be very in the period to have a wheel and be spinning my yarn! I prefer thinner yarns, so I would want a wheel that allows me to easily do that. I love what you do, and I always stop whatever I'm doing to watch your new uploads right away. Thank you for all you do!

What I love about my spinning wheel is that I own a spinning wheel. 😆 I've been wanting one for 20 years since I learned how to spin in school. Someone I met online was so nice to give me her old one she didn't use anymore. She named the wheel Mariechen (Little Mary). Mary is an antique wheel and she isn't in the bedt condition, but I worked around her problems. Now I spend hours and hours spinning and love it so so much. I'm so glad Mariechen found a new home at my place.

My favorite wheel to spin on is the single treadle Schacht Matchless. It is the first wheel that I got and it is still a dream to spin on. I have spun on lots (and I mean LOTS) of spinning wheels over the years and I still absolutely love my Matchless. I love it because of the very large treadle that it has. Some people think that the single treadle limits you in the way you can position yourself when you are spinning and for most spinning wheels (other than the electrics) that’s so true. Not so for the Matchless because of the wide single treadle. I can change the angle of my body in relation to the wheel, change which foot I am spinning with (or use both feet at once!) all depending on how I am feeling at any particular time. This flexibility has allowed me to spin for longer periods of time because I am not having to keep my body aligned in any specific way like most wheels need you to do (both single and double treadle wheels). This allows for adjustments with hips, knees, feet and ankles allowing me to spin even if my Fibromyalgia has flared up in one part of me. The downside of this is that spinning on my Matchless can easily become a big black hole for time and I do actually have to set a timer sometimes to remind me to either take a break or to stop spinning (to eat or go to bed for example!😉). While I enjoy spinning on many other wheels, my Matchless is still my absolute favorite.

I got a nano electric about 4-5 months ago. Just don't have the concept and can't get the tension set right. I've wanted a spinning wheel for over 5 yrs now. In June I found a Louet S 10, I had never even sat at a spinning wheel! I saw Iris Rose and fell in love, the lady that had her, wanted her dream electric spinning machine. My Iris Rose is painted in many colors, as she was used by previous owner to get attention at fiber festivals! She has flowers all over her, she is pink, blue, black, yellow, and some orange, along with some copper. She called to me and now she is mine. I'm a very newbie and am definitely loving it!😁 I'm not concerned about the weight I'm spinning right now just trying to get a consistent spin right now, then will try to spin sport to lace weight.

And then for a graduation present from university I was given a Kromski Sonata which is a modern folding travel wheel. So far I've been spinning fingering weight blends, including alpaca and merino. I love the ability to take my Sonata anywhere I might go, but my Symphony holds my heart because my Cinderella wheel is smooth as can be and practically spins itself. What I love about my spinning wheel: My main wheel is a Kromski Fantasia that I finished myself. I love this wheel! It is so easy to use, is such a fluid and smooth wheel and has a large range of whorl sizes that can be swapped out VERY easily! I also have the jumbo bobbin and it also swaps out in a second! It is a true workhorse and is quite affordable! I also loved finishing it because I like woodwork, but it comes in lovely factory finishes as well. It's less well known, but I find it very similar to spin to a Schacht Ladybug. I actually tried them side by side and they were almost the same feel! But the magnetic flyer was the tipping point for me. I also like spinning in double drive and have an Ashford traditional setup this way -- unfortunately I spin right hand forward and this is a left side flyer wheel, so my dream wheel (at least at this moment in time) is a double drive wheel with a right side flyer like a schacht reeves, lendrum saxony, or majacraft aura. I know the flatiron comes with an optional right side flyer, but I'm a sucker for the pretty woodwork. I spin: lots of stuff! currently woolen sweater yarn in sport and DK 3 ply is my default.

Thank you for the awesome event. I am so excited! I tried spinning on a wheel for the first time back in college more than 30 years ago and produced a lumpy irregular ball of yarn out of black fleece. I struggled the whole time unable to understand what I was doing, but only reacting to the fast spinning wheel driven by my fast uncontrollable treading. I realize now that the ugly lumpy ball of yarn could pass as an Art Yarn, but back then, I was mortified by such pitiful outcome. A decade ago, I found a CPW at a local flea market. It stunk of cigarettes smoke and needed a good cleaning with warm water and vinegar solution and couple weeks of air drying. It had a damaged flier primitively repaired. Once I had it repaired properly and had extra bobbins made, I was able to take time and learn to spin on it. My other wheel is a Luët and I do intend on customizing the wheel with colorful design someday soon. I am a flight attendant, so I have done “Ply on the Fly” while flying many a time, as I often travel carrying my drop spindles and knitting supplies. Lately, I am considering purchasing a compact and light e-spinner to suit my life style. I think Electric Eel Nano e-spinner might suit my needs. I love spinning wool and alpaca fleece. I would like to blend in more SeaCell in the future as I really like the luster it brings.

I'm an experienced knitter who also crochets who just started spinning during the pandemic on a 3D printed turkish spindle. I can't wait to try new fibers and get better. One of my university professors actually helped me learn by teaching me on zoom! I would love to try the electric eel, as it takes up very little space. I've tried cheviot and corriedale and can't wait to try merino and silk.

I love my Ashford Traveler. It was a gift from a dear friend who taught me to wheel spin when she bought her 4th wheel. At some point I would love an Ashford Joy 2 so I could take it with me when I travel.

I love my EEW Nano as I am able to spin lace weight and ply it to make socks. My Dream wheel would be the Spinolution Electric Firefly to spin all different weight yarns including Art Yarns. Love your videos! You helped me to focus on loosening my firm grip to a much lighter touch with my drafting hand and consistency with my rhythm leading hand to the orifice. Thank you!

Jillian thank you for this post. It was incredibly helpful. I have just purchased a second hand Ashford traditional spinning wheel and am excited to get started spinning my own yarn to knit. It is something I have wanted to try for many years. To start with I want to spin my own wool, but eventually I would love to start combining a variety of natural fibres to create colourful one off yarns for my knitting and textile projects.

I bought my first spinning wheel back in April and at the time I didn't know there was a difference between a Scotch tension and Irish tension wheel. After I got it home and did some research I discovered that it was a castle style Irish tension wheel and it took over a week of tears, swearing, small successes and lots of wool to figure out how to use it properly. It was home made in 1988 with no instructions so trial and error was my only option. I sold it and bought a used Ashford Traditional single drive, but now that it's gone I kind of miss it.

I just got my electric eel wheel nano last week. I REALLY love it! Been spinning some natural brown merino on it in fingering weight form. I plan on making a nice warm shawl for my mother. I would love to spin silk next for my continued learning experience! :D

I've got an EEW nano and an older Ashford Elizabeth (early '80s). I love the aesthetics of the Elizabeth and the options for both SD and DD. The nano is delightfully portable and flexible (spinning in bed on a bad day ftw). I mostly spin fingering-DK weight, typically in medium wools.

I have a Spinolution echo, I love the ease of spinning with it. I am improving my lace weight spinning. I also have a couple of drop spindles. I currently have a merino tencel blend I am working with and a merino silk blend. Both are currently at a 40 wpi as a single ply.

My mother had a Louët wheel that she did not enjoy. As I learn more about it I'm pretty sure the strong draw was not to her liking. You mentioned it is great for plying and I couldn't agree more! I like to support spin and I hate support spindle plying. I have also learned how to loosen the tension and to cross-lace the Louët to make some pretty thin (sport and fingerling weight) yarn pretty successfully!

Im just learning on an Imp wheel, a Castle style double drive produced by Keneila (Ken and Sheila Green) after Philip Poore stopped making the Wendy. Made in response to a demand for light, portable, reliable wheels, Sheila Green commissioned Ashford (who had bought the Wendy jigs and patterns) to construct them, after making some changes to the design for copyright reasons. They were released about 1990. Over 100 were made but most were taken to the UK from 1991 and sold there. I live in the UK and my name is Wendy so that ties together nicely!😆‼️ Great little informative video as usual - keep up the good work 👍🏼

I just ordered a Cassandra wheel from JMS Wheels last month and ordered a delta orifice for it too. I can't wait for it to get here. It will be my first time ever even TOUCHING a spinning wheel! I have spun with drop spindles only. I can't decide whether my dream wheel is an Ashford Elizabeth 2 or an Ashford Country Spinner. I love the look of Saxony wheels and the variety it will do but I love the chunky art yarn that comes off of the country spinner. I would LOVE to make some gorgeous 😍 art yarn! I'm so so excited! I can hardly wait!

I fell in love and ordered last week my first spinning wheel. It is a Kromski Minstrel. It looks so beautiful. I really look forward to receiving it and learning to use it. My main goal would be to make yarn out of the 3 raw fleeces I have been given by a friend. At least, I am hoping by the end of these 3 fleeces, I won't be a complete beginner anymore.

Congrats on 2k! How exciting! I don’t have a wheel as I’ve been using and learning with a drop spindle! (Actually found your channel when looking for tutorials, and I really love the channel!) But I think if I were to get a wheel I would want to get the Ashford Traditional or maybe one of the smaller portable ones, just to take up less room in my small place, lol. Really I’d be insanely excited to have any wheel though, lol! I’m really liking making really colorful things and have been using more merino right now, though I don’t really have a favorite weight or fiber content with spinning, though I have been wanting to try cotton just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Love it! 😊

Once I got my Echo I started seeing improvement right off. It is so easy to use and I love that I don't have to feed the leader through the orifice now. My favorite fibers to spin are locks and silk sari. Congrats on 2,000 subscribers!!

I've had my Ashford Kiwi 3 for about a month and enjoy it so far. I bought it because it was relatively inexpensive and can be expanded with a faster whorl and a bigger flyer. Someday I may want one that has changeable forms of tension, but that's a ways down the road :)

Oh my gosh, I wish this video would have been around 15 years ago when I was looking for a wheel!🤣 I’ve had many, many wheels since then and my Favorite will always be the Spinolution-I spun the best yarn, but I had to sell it because it wreaked havoc on my Achilles! It was so disheartening! I now have a Schacht Ladybug which spins worsted so well and an Ashford Traditional which spins woolen beautifully.
