Thanks for the good advice. I often feel like VTT takes so much more work than the early days when entire adventures were a few notebook pages and a big sheet of graph paper.

I agree. Technology is supposed to make things easier right but why does it always feel like more effort hahaha. Obviously though you don't have to use ANY modules for Foundry and you can run a good game. There are also other virtual tabletop systems that have a more minimalist approach (I'm thinking owlbear rodeo... I think!). But I usually have an emergency encounter grid on foundry (It's just a grid I draw on haha). It acts like my dry erase map I have for in-person games (which I still use at times, because players are the way they are lol).

This is one of the big draws of FoundryVTT. The core game can get you running a game with minimal effort and just some maps and token art. No modules are required. But the module community allows you to tailor that experience to precisely what you want out of a VTT and you can put in as little or as much time/effort as you’d like.
