Very good video. Amazing piece of information. Congratulations. Keep doing good and technically correct reviews. I’m a Civil engineer with around 20 years of experience and I’ve never seen such a good review on KZbin about windows. Thanks a lot.

We have always had the best results from Anderson windows. My dad in the house we lived in for 15 yeas had Anderson’s in it. 1 window sash lost it’s seal and needed replacement. My dad wanted to purchase 1 sash, but Anderson replaced every window in the house, free of charge including the labor. When I started building custom homes in the mountains of NC, the only window I would use is Anderson’s. In my house I also has the casement windows which I selected the largest units I could reasonably install in the rooms (most were 3’ wide and 5’ tall). I wanted the views of the surrounding mountains. The first winter there, winds howling 30-40, temps in the low single digits (below 0 wind chill) and snow blowing, I was standing in front of my windows and still warm as usual, not a slightest indication of air leakage detected. After living in that house for 18 years, every window still operated perfectly and still sealed tight. And yes we opened our windows a lot during the year! Next house, Anderson’s for sure! On some of the window types, there are that 1 additional step needed to cover installation or connection methods. But they are still worth the investment. My dad has a saying I use even today, “Only the rich can afford cheap windows”. And that is true, if you can feel any temperature change inside, and air movement at all, that is money that you spent conditioning the inside gong right out the window. Thanks for the review, and the best on your new adventures!

Great explanation of some of the technical details in this video. Thanks for sharing. I don't know about the 100 series, but I have installed many 200 and 400 series. I personally don't care too much for Andersen, but they are certainly much better than a builder grade vinyl window. I would imagine that, when budget is an issue (often), but the customer can afford the 100s, I would probably recommend them. I do like the option for built-in security sensors, but I'm not sure if that's available on the 100 series. The casements are a problem when you get above 5-0 tall. The crank is only geared on the bottom and closing the window leaves the top leaning out, often to the point where the latch will not grab. You have to go outside and push it in to be able to latch it. Unfortunately, it's a common problem among most manufacturers, but these are somewhat worse than some other brands. Marvin is the only manufacturer that I've seen who offers a line with gears on top and bottom, and they operate very nicely. Kolbe windows are probably my favorite overall with Marvin a close second. I think Matt likes Marvin, too, and I'm sure you guys buy a lot with John at MGI. Last I checked, Andersen removed their products from MGI, but they do sell Marvin now. The last Andersens we bought were from Grand Openings. Where do you get yours?

Thanks for this video. I was always under the impression the 100 series were cheapie windows that didn't warrant using in my home. I'm in the market for windows soon and will definitely include them in my search.

Have Anderson 100 on my personal home and love them. Ours are all black with zero fade after 2 years. Air sealing is great we open them every night starting in the spring clear though the late fall and the seals are great. My dealer/ friend said Anderson are 90% of the best and 100%better than the lower quality. Cost

@Grande1124 please explain why you think they are cheap? I'm currently sitting in front of a wall of Anderson 100's that are blocking out the crazy wind storm with zero draft. Last week with highs in the upper 90's and the sun beating down the AC never came on( like is said before we open them at night). What else should a window do?

Anderson warranty is great. called them a few times before the warranty end to refurb the door before warranty was over. They were no questions asked on parts, one may have even been my fault, but spoke with the guy nicely and he let through. They even were able to give me parts for my sliding door handle that was rusted up that was slightly out of warranty period. But I didn't have a picture of which one, then i forgot. but they made the door my late father installed 10 years ago slide like new before it was out of warranty.

If Budget won't allow for Fiberglass windows, then I go to Vinylmax Newton or Edison series with Triple Pane glass. U-values of .19 and lower on their glass package at a pretty fair price. They also have insulation inside the frame for better performance there. I really love Lincoln windows if budget will allow.

I just meet with my local Utah Anderson Rep and he showed me the new mull detail that is coming for all their series. Really slick site installed mull system that hides all the fasteners. Being site installed all the windows can be shipped individually and assembled prior to install. I believe it will be coming mid / end of 2019. I've installed several 100 series packages in homes and my owners love them. Great video keep them coming.

Any benefit to making the eves over hang bigger ? Seems like that would be a great solution in a new house for sun shade. It would help keep the outside walls dryer.

Currently installing Pella Impervia (fiberglass) windows in my home. I think fiberglass expanding and contracting at similar rates to actual glass provides a much more airtight product than a vinyl window without the cost of aluminum clad wood. I think the Marvin fiberglass looks better than Pella, but I wasn't able to price compare in my area. If the budget is tighter and in the vinyl area, then best bang for buck comes from Pella 250 triple pane or 350 double pane depending on the goal and geography. Anderson's Fibrex is an interesting solution, but aesthetically I don't care for the super large frames/sashes.

@@vincenttrapani5365 Never heard of waxing fiberglass windows... Not sure why you would want to unless there's a product out there that requires it. Most fiberglass is painted or, like mine, made with colored resin. Both options shouldn't require waxing but I'm sure their are all kinds out there...

@@ironllama That's great info. Also strengthens my decision to have gone with fiberglass over vinyl given the drastically less thermoplasticity.

After hearing about your great Anderson Customer Service, I may move away from using Pella (sh-t for customer service and followup) and go with the 100 series for a 3-season patio upgrade. Product AND support are important. Depending on a brand is no longer an option if customer service is poor.

Anderson 100's are our go to as well. Tilt-turn windows are generally not in our clients range. My biggest complaint about the Anderson 100 series fixed/picture window is that their frame is too fat. I put in three 2'0x1'0 above a vanity to try and let some light in but by the time you included that extra bit of frame that holds the glass in, there was barely any light coming through. Something I wish the reps would have shown me before I bought them. So I'd just like to see thinner frames from Anderson.

So many people tout low-e windows as the be-all end-all of window tech. I haven't found that to be the case. I've been in many houses with giant, unshaded, west-facing low-e windows in the Las Vegas area on summer afternoons, and every time, I can say that they let in A LOT of heat when the sun was shinning in. In most situations, passive solar design is more effective at controlling unwanted solar gain. It dictates that you should have very few windows pointing east or west, and those that you do have on the east or west should be relatively small. There aren't really good ways of controlling heat gain in all seasons like you can with windows on the north or south. (at least, not without having to move or adjust shading)
@xoxo2008oxox
@xoxo2008oxox 5 жыл бұрын
Low-E isn't enough for that region. You need coated exterior (a metal-like film), and UV coated glass. I'm in the central-east and direct summer sun through Low-E is barely felt. But I suspect with Nevada sun, more than just Low-E is necessary. Anderson has Smart Sun which is a coating to improve reflective solar. www.andersenwindows.com/windows-and-doors/options-and-accessories/glass-options/
