How to Choose the Perfect Hiking Pants

Shopping for hiking pants is the worst. What’s a girl gotta do to find a pair of pants that fits well, feels good, performs well on the trails and will last through our constantly evolving bodies?
This week I went on a hike with the 5 pairs of hiking pants that have been in my closet from 7 years to 7 months. My goal was to compare them all side-to-side on the same trail, on the same day.

I get that you are focused on water resistance, but for those of us in the CA Sierra it unfortunately gets hot in the wilderness. I have a hard time finding a pant I won’t die in and that is ALSO mosquito resistant. I have Kuhl, OR, Columbia even Pacific Trail and Amazon. Different pants for different conditions.

I've tried so many brands. Most seem to be designed for women with a more athletic build, not curvy like me. My go-to hiking pants are my old Columbia zip-offs. They have a nice phone pocket on the leg & fit well. They're a little fuller in the lower leg than I'd like but I can live with that. I'd like to find some water resistant pants that fit my shape.

Oh I'll keep my eyes open and see what I can find for you. I agree though, not every body shape is the same and outdoor brands need to start realizing this.
