You showcased some beautiful cards Ardyth. Your collection of sentiments has a great variety to pick from. My go to birthday die is Lawn Fawn's Giant Happy Birthday die. Great video again. I want to add that if you buy an alphabet, make sure that the letters are separate. That gives you so much more creative options. And even better if the most used letters are double or triple. As alphabets are most of the times not the cheap dies, make really sure what you buy.
@ardyth Жыл бұрын
I do have an alphabet that's all together because the letters are small (and therefore the dies could be easily lost), but I know what you mean about having to store the extra die cut letters. I also have had to buy a second alphabet when I lost the Y from one, so now I have two of all the letters (except Y). Thanks for that tip! And for watching!
@nicollevisser8141 Жыл бұрын
@@ardyth My alphabet with multiple letters are big. I wanted to use them for shaker cards and inlay-ed letters, but due to the fact that they are stuck together I couldn't use this very expensive alphabet for these types of cards. In the end i bought a kind of similar alphabet which consisted of separate letters. And the double I didn't mention for when you loose them but when you want to have a word like hello and you need two l's. It save a lot of time if you already have to two l's, from calculating the place and all the repetition of getting the card through the die-machine.

Oh my goodness, the timing on this video is impeccable. 😊 I started revamping my word die and diecut storage last night! I had to consider what type of dies to purchase in order to facilitate my chosen method of foiling. I am looking for sentiments that have the word and shadow die. I chose to use toner cardstock and a laminator in order to utilize the investment I had already made on dies. I am also looking forward to seeing you on Craft Roulette Show in the very near future! I noticed you are the guest speaker, but unfortunately, I don't recall the date, right off hand. Thanks again, I love your cards! ❤

Oh how I wish I had seen a video like this one when I first began making cards! I just purged some sentiment dies because they are difficult to work with. I have WAY too many sentiment stamp sets. I intend to whittle that selection down soon. And you are spot on about thinking through whether you like to stamp sentiments, handwrite notes on the inside, or pretty much stick with using dies that are so readily available now. I also recently resolved that at my age, I am going to stop making Halloween, Easter, pet-themed, Valentine and baby cards. I'm in the process of using up all of those disposable materials and they will not be replaced. The stamp sets and ephemera will be passed along to someone else. It's so freeing to know I can sail right past those products on the shelves or in online shops! Thanks for a well-thought-out video!

I hadn't thought about things like bouncy and fun. I generally use my scan n cut with bought svg files or patterns that came on it for words. I pay a lot more attention to size and ease of use. Thank you for a new perspective.
@ardyth Жыл бұрын
Thank YOU for a new perspective - the ability to change the size is definitely an advantage that the electronic machines have over dies! Thanks for watching!
@jesseb5112 Жыл бұрын
@@ardyth I promised myself that if I bought the scan n cut I would not invest in word dies. I did a 7 month spending freeze and bought the scan n cut in February of 2016. Late December of 2022 I could not keep a 99 cent Believe die out of my poppy stamps cart. They were running a sale so I spent either 75 cents or 80 cents on it. NO REGRETS. It is very delicate and I don't like peeling incredibly delicate pieces off my scan n cut mat. It is small, and pretty. Looking at your Happy Birthday die cuts reminds me that I need to cut a bunch of those. By the way, you are one of the reasons why colored cardstock is being used up, but not replaced in my craftroom.

Love, love that last Happy New Year card. I struggle with having the sentiment I want and will often end up without one. I recently decided on a unique sentiment and cut it out of holographic paper only to realize there was no way the paper was coming out of the die without ending up all wonky. What a disappointment. Recently bought a happy birthday die. Pretty script. But soooooo skinny. And with my dexterity issues I really regret it. Great video! I have a ton of word dies! I loved the look of the waffleflower oversized words but haven’t used them yet. I think it’s because I need some more “simple” backgrounds. Which I just went through and did a toss, need to add to, and ready to go sorting and organizing of. So maybe now I can just grab a ready to go background and just add one of those to it. I think that what you have or don’t have ready for backgrounds makes a difference in what dies you choose. Now that my medium size collection of backgrounds is organized and not just one big stack, I should be able to make a card faster if I need one in a hurry and the painted backgrounds should be ok for just a big sentiment. I also know now which background panels I’m not quite happy with and need some stenciling with paste or something to finish them off. So I’m looking forward to using my oversized dies. Did you know that Zsoka from pocketful of happiness came out with an alpha set in that awesome font she uses? I snagged it right away! There’s a back up order coming in April that g it’s sold out. That’s s a cool alpha set and a great size!

Just went back and watched it again! So many great ideas! QUESTION- do you also cut out all the alphabet letters in certain colors to save for later use? Just curious if that would be nice to have on hand, or would they just get too tangled up in a storage envelope?
@ardyth Жыл бұрын
I have 'leftover' letters from ideas that didn't work, but I have never cut extras intentionally, precisely for the reason you said. Having said that, it might be smart to cut some extra Ps (for when I want to make happy) or vowels, those letters that you need a lot of. I just haven't been able to come up with good storage so that I can find them easily, but they don't take up a lot of room. Hmm. I'll have to think about that one... lol! Thanks for watching!
