Right on. If you don't know how to tie a knot..then tie a lot. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea that there was so much to dock lines.

The previous owner of my boat had double braid. I was frequently awaken by the double braid jerking. The three strand braid had more stretch and didn't jerk.

The chain is very durable but if you spend a night on the boat the sound of multiple chains slapping against the dock in the swell will drive you mad so another option is to use one of the chafe guards in the loop

Damn! A round turn goes around (360 degrees)! Take a round turn around the base. Do NOT put any strain on the horns, only on the base.

Both Samson and New England Ropes made dock lines that are appropriate for larger yachts. This is the type of decision that is best made with a naval architect or the rope company, since the loads are large the the potential for injury (if a line parts) is also large.

Fab info. Now I just need to work out how much rope I need for my bilge keel which I keep in a mud berth - to ensure it doesn't rise up at the front too much - or swing out at the aft too much! :D.

Great video ,but short lines on bow and stern do not allow for tides

David, on the West coast, floating docks are the norm, so the whole dock rises and falls with the tides. That's certainly the case with the dock shown in this video.

Can rope work for non-marine use?
@seikibrian8641
@seikibrian8641 6 жыл бұрын
No, rope is only for marine use. The Army, the Boy Scouts, the Mountain Rescue Association, and scores of other organizations that have been teaching knot-tying and ropework for land-based uses have been lying to people.

The first thing to do when choosing docklines for your boat is to go anywhere else than West Marine. Unless you intend to over spend needlessly, than go for it.
