OMG - Thank you for "hating" blinds and shutters. Have lived in my home for 28 years. We purchased white wood blinds for the majority of our windows when we moved in. At the time, it was the trend to get wood blinds because they were such an improvement over the horrible "mini" blind craze of the 80's. Had I known what a pain they are to care for, I would not have gotten them. They are dust magnets and take too much time to clean. My husband loves them. And from some of the comments, I see that a lot of men still prefer them. Taking a chance on saying, those guys aren't the ones cleaning them. Yes, I still have those blinds and I despise them. Room by room, I'm replacing them with shades or sheers with drapery panels. Some rooms need only the sheers. Thanks for the fabulously complete tutorial on everything for windows!!

I love my plantation shutters. They are like furniture for your windows. Mine are wooden. They last forever. Expensive up front but you can change your room many times and colors without the added expense of doing expensive window treatments each time. I love the look of them from the street view. I would think that all interior decorators would not like them - less income for them., I like the way they function also.

There is a very good reason for plantation shutters. I live in Hawaii. My windows and doors are often wide open. I need privacy and light control while allowing the wind to flow through my spaces. Draperies blow around,block the breezes and get wet. Blinds make noise and are not as easy to control light. Only plantation shutters work for this situation. Plus think of the word plantation for the clue as to why they exist.

I have a dilemma on what and how to best hang curtains on 3 windows in our family room. One window butts up to the wall. Two windows have wall space on either side. Do I hang 3 separate rods or a ceiling track or forget curtains and do roman shades. I wanted to hang curtains high to elongate the room. Or do i hang shades (not roman) and do curtains? Ugh so confused.

1-Julie What is the best way to hang sheers? Can you put rings on them? I would like to use them in place of panels. What type top should I look for in sheers. 2-I have horizontal blinds on my sliding glass I would like to replace them but don’t know what to use. The blinds are right behind my kitchen table which is glass with 4 chairs (French with mild country setting) please help. 🙏🏻

I live in an old church and I can not find a good way to cover the windows in the sanctuary. The "home" owner insists on black velvet but I want something elegant and don't know what to do. There are about 5 different colors to work with in the space. there are beautiful moulding treatments on the window and walls.
