Hey Crystal, Just got done with your video on watercolor brushes, and man, I learned a ton! You really know your stuff. I didn't realize how much difference the type of brush makes - golden sable, white taklon, and all those other options you mentioned. The idea of a brush being like three brushes in one is pretty cool. And that Ivory short flat brush? Never would've thought to use something like that for watercolors. Your walkthrough of the different types of brushes and what they're used for cleared up a lot of confusion for me. Mop brushes for big areas, fan brushes for fur and grass - it all makes sense now. Your advice about filling the paintbrush right up to the ferrule was super helpful. And that dagger brush you showed off looks like it could be a game-changer. Your explanation about the filbert brush being good for mixing paint was also a lightbulb moment for me. The pocket brush you showed off seems perfect for plein air painting. I'll definitely keep an eye out for one with a secure lid and a hole for drying. I appreciate you sharing what's in your kit. It gives me a good idea of what I might want to add to mine as I get more comfortable with painting. Your natural hair stable brush, kolinsky sable round, hybrid brush, fan brush, filbert brush, and flats brush all look like great tools to have. Lastly, your tips on taking care of brushes were just what I needed. I'll make sure to clean my brushes properly and store them right so they last. And I'll definitely be looking for a brush case like the one you recommended. Thanks for sharing your knowledge - you've got a new fan in me. Keep doing what you're doing!

I recently bought several types of brushes because my friend was having a hard time controlling soft synthetic squirrel brushes due to nerve damage. I was shocked how different they paint when you’re using the same paper and same puddle of paint. But for her the stiffest taklon style brushes gave her the most control over water, paint, and contact with the paper (ie getting the shapes/lines she is aiming for). Thank you for covering this better than any other brush video I’ve seen

Wow, thank you for such a wonderful compliment! Yes, there are as many personalities to bristles and paintbrushes as there are artists! Style, use and surface as well as medium I’ll take a bit of time and practice. Eventually, we find tools that are the perfect match.

For some reason, everybody mentions only 1 difference between synthetic and natural (and its always the ammount of water they can hold) when it's so many other more important differences. One of them is how they release the paint. Only that reason,is enough,to make me only choose natural, because synthetic, makes watercolour look very opaque to the point it only works and looks like Acrylic paint. So many other reasons, that all point to natural as the proper tool. Synthetic is ok for a rigger, but that's that.
