So on a chop like this what does the customer do about from windshield glass and door glass etc? I assume they need to get new custom glass made?
@Theoldironworkshop7 ай бұрын
It’s all flat glass. So we will just recut it to fit.

Not only impressed with your workmanship but also your lack of ego, most people wouldn’t say they were copying another shop let alone mention Mike Bellos by name, hats off to you.

I’m nothing more than mediocre at best, But thank you. We all learn from someone. No reason not to acknowledge someone’s efforts. That’s the best thing about this platform, you can learn anything.

Such a good car to start with ------- with the Chop you'll do ------- should look really good ------- You mentioned Mike ------ Since he was turned onto the Air Saw ------- he says that the is the way to go -------- cuts like butter and cut width is very small making it ideal for Tig Welding back together -------- I have a '38 Ford as in your video at about 8.14 ------ I want to do a Chop to it ------ car is nowhere nearly as nice as the one you are doing ------- Mike did one ---- I think it was a 4 -5" chop -------- Will be watching you closely ------ any Tips you can give would be most appreciated ( never did one of this kind ---- just a '30 Model A ) ------- Was the Car Craft Magazines of help? Do you remember what Month and Year? -----------Thank You for Sharing and for telling what steps you are doing and WHY ------- Hope you have a Good Week and will catch Part 11--------- Rodney

Thank you. No the magazine drawings were not helpful. More of a joke I guess. It’s really just over thinking. You can’t plan enough and work slow. The more you plan the better it goes together

Almost a sin to cut the top on a car that nice. I’ve seen you do a lot of chops and from what I’ve seen you are very experienced in doing this. I’m curious to know how many you have done. I can see someone committing to chop their own car but chopping someone else’s requires a lot of self confidence. Good job👍
@Theoldironworkshop7 ай бұрын
I believe this is number 8 But it’s not necessarily the amount it the understanding of what is going to happen You definitely learn how not to do something very quickly. With resources like KZbin Instagram and the H.A.M.B nobody really has an excuse not to know how to do something.

Speaking of fiberglass 1932 3W coupe hot rods I just traded my Wescott (fiberglass) ‘32 3W coupe (painted/running/driving) straight across for a 1955 Chevy Nomad (NOT running/driving) project car. The wagon is a tank compared to my coupe.

Nice chop, did you talk to Mike Bellos at the GNRS , thanks for explaining where and why you chose the places for the cuts, for me the ‘36 Ford is one of the complicated chops, I’ve done 3, but I was much younger then! Thanks for Seal Beach footage!

You hit that nail perfect on the head, when you spoke about engineering back then and that they cared, hence everything now is junk. Brother, I couldn’t agree more everything is made breakdown, made so you can’t fix it as a consumer and the list goes on and on, I would much rather live with primitive than what we have now.

@Theoldironworkshop7 ай бұрын
Actually, the owner of the car is quite active and driving. I’m sure the seat is going to have to be modified for the lower roof. But it’s a driver. My 36 roadster was chopped 4 inches and I drove it every day for 2 years Thank you

Yeah, was fun in the 50s but those cars are so special today. Next stop junkyard. Sad
@1936fordcrazy7 ай бұрын
Why is it going to the junkyard? It's already getting welded back together and will be what the owner likes just because it's not what you want doesn't mean it's junk. Go out to your garage and build yours how you see fit thats the great thing about classic cars you can make it how you want
