Thanks for the excellent tutorial! I'm a classically trained cellist who is trying to get into other styles of playing! I love listening to jazz and country and celtic music, and I've seen this technique used but haven't been able to get my head around it till now. Side-note: I find it really interesting how different your voice sounds in German and in English. Mine probably does too, but you don't notice it so much till you do a direct comparison. What a great skill! However, I can't verify the difference between the Upbow Chop and the Sounded Upbow Chop. A queation: How do I download the pdf file with the sheet music of the piece? I can't find it! The link URL is lost. Thank you for your share!

Hi patautzu, the "sounded upbow chops" are actually just plain, normal upbows (albeit starting with a marcato and lifting the bow into the air). For the bowing hand, upbow chops & sounded upbow chops are the same. The difference is only in the left hand: the left hand dampens the strings on the upbow chop, while for the sounded upbow the left hand either plays a note or leaves the string open (= not dampened).

dedgemusic Yep, five! C, G, D A and usually a high E-string. Sometimes I change it around and play with a low F-string instead.
