Isn't that drastic change going to rid of the beneficial bacteria?

Yes lol this some shock to a crab if the tank is clean just let it season.

I wouldn't rinse all the sand that way with chlorinated water. At the least, I would not clean.everything at once. The sponge filter I just rinse out in tank water. Theres alot of bacteria on that

because he was in a tank with no land, and it was probably freshwater.

@Flora Veins How do you know if they are freshwater or brackish? I got mine at wal-mart and they suck at information and care but they were in a tank with no land. I have them in a tank with land and water. We made their water brackish. I REALLY love my 3 crabs and want them to live and I certainly don't want to kill them. They seem happy and I have 2 females and 1 male and the male is even doing the mating "dance". PLEASE tell me if you can how I know for sure if they are freshwater or brackish. It seems like everywhere I look they say that there aren't really any freshwater fiddler crabs.???
@jackleo44357 жыл бұрын
Dorretta Haynes If they look like the ones in this video, they're brackish.
@rockinout49907 жыл бұрын
Dorretta Haynes Walmart says they are fresh water, but they really need brakish water as that's what they live in in their natural habitat. If these crabs are in freshwater they'll die a slow, painful death within months. =,(

Exactly what I was looking for -- thank you for posting. Which sponge filter do you use? I've gone through two non-sponge in a month because of the sand. Pet stores around here are not staffed with people knowledgeable about the fiddlers -- EVEN THOUGH THEY SOLD ONE TO MY 13-YEAR OLD!!! "Just keep it in a fish bowl!" Sheesh! Also what are those little floating plants in the fiddler care video? (Which is also awesome!)

@FloraVeins7 жыл бұрын
This is a thorough cleaning of the tank which doesn't have to be done often. They stay in the tank for water changes. There are ways to make moving them less stressful. They're very hardy animals so it's not something to be too worried about(:
@ogelspider7 жыл бұрын
ok thanks because I have experience with vampire crabs and they get stressed out very easily. A lot of mine died from moving tanks too much

fiddler crabs can they live in a tank with no land and do they eat snails I was told this

They canNOT live in a tank with no land. They will eat pretty much whatever is given to them, they're scavengers.
@echoesvayne97903 жыл бұрын
... I mean.... I just aim for the 1.004 gravity... but that is WAY less salt than you recommend... and I can't fathom tearing a tank down like that ... but I am already using a 2nd tank to convert dwarf sag. And hair grass to brackish emersed growth patterns along the shore... and have a F ton of Java fern glued to the rocks.. like i plan to be a little more diligent with the reduced water I am used to from my fish tanks... I will probably scoop the land sand out like once month... but my end game is to get plants growing in the sand above water and just stir on ground poop in

Flora Veins Thank you so much!!!! I love your channel and instagram by the way!
Nice informative video but this tank is way too small in my opinion. In the wild, they have a lot of room so getting a bigger tank is what's best for their quality of life. Even the tanks they're kept in at pet stores are bigger than this.... In my opinion, 10 gallons should be the minimum tank size for these crabs and if you do actual research there's no one else saying that they can be kept in a 5.5 gallon. Sorry but I just felt like I should tell you, it's okay to be wrong sometimes. Not trying to be mean or offensive, just informative. :)

@FloraVeins6 жыл бұрын
Stores often have no idea what they are talking about. Brackish water is their natural habitat! I'd definitely recommend slowly switching to brackish. They'll live longer and be happier!

This is a fantastic video. I'm thinking of getting some fiddler crabs, and this has a lot of helpful info. It's also nice to see how other people set up their tanks. I also want to try putting some quick little fish in with them, even though it's not recommended. Btw, the music is beautiful and greatly improves the video imo. Can you tell me the name of the song? It sounds like Miku Hatsune, but there are a million miku songs out there. :)

5cm of water is enough for fiddler crabs, they need alot more sand and mud to dig their caves which are not under water.
@FloraVeins8 жыл бұрын
You are correct! The reason I filled this tank more was because I was leaving on vacation for a week. I didn't want the water to evaporate completely. Came home and they had the perfect amount of water.
