Awesome! But I don’t think I can get it up here in upstate New York! But if you put it in a aluminum pie tin and leave it out it kills house flies! My Ex mother in law used to use it! I think you should of mixed it into the warm water then sprayed it on then used a big moist sponge to wipe it down! Thnx!!🙂

Hi, Thank you for the video. I don't know if you realize that vacuuming up Borax, baking soda, or any other powdery substance in some modern fancy vacuum cleaners clogs up the filtration system and voids some warranties. Best to use a wisk broom and trashcan first, then vacuum the mattress afterwards. Back in 1967 my grandmother taught me every time you change the sheets to use Lysol spray on the mattress and pillows. Then wait an hour and vacuum the mattress and pillows. The Lysol spray kills germs, and vacuuming sucks up the dust mites and dead skin cells. You should always use a mattress pad protector. Wash it, and sheets often with 1/4 cup each: Borax, baking soda, washing soda, and the smallest amount of detergent for the load size, then distilled white vinegar in the rinse cycle, and rince twice. By vacuuming the mattress at least once a week you prevent the nastiness from building up in the first place. The old timers did spring cleaning by taking everything outside and letting the sunshine disinfect it. For a reference point, go find the Beverly Hillbillies episode with Granny spring cleaning, taking everything outside to air out and sit in the sun disinfecting. Our ancestors worked harder and smarter, because it works. But who wants to drag their mattress into the backyard for a few hours, flip it and wait a few more hours? Not me. Hope this helps. Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊 🎄🎅🤶🦌⛄❄️🌟

@@grahamgannandale3387 Hi! You're quite welcome! Glad I could help someone! I've got all of this cleaning knowledge I've learned over a lifetime, and no children to pass it on to. (I wasn't blessed with children). I'm guessing the descendants of the bra burners that went to work lost out on the chain of learning from one generation to the next. The generations of babies warehoused in day care lost out on so very much. I don't mean to criticize. Most single parents had no choice at all. My mother had to work after the divorce, but I had already been taught by both grandmothers, and my mother by then. I'm always amazed when other women don't know not to dunk a Brillo pad in the dishwater. You dunk the pot or pan, it has enough water on it to wet the Brillo pad to suds up. And drain the Brillo pad in a soap dish with a plastic soap saver under it to air dry all the way around. Simple things like that, I learned at the age of 3, along with how to milk a cow, how to fish. In my family the wonder years of childhood ended at age 3, after that you started learning life skills, and how to help your family out. By age 5 I had sharp hospital corners on my bed, and could fold a fitted sheet alone. I just couldn't reach the clothesline alone. Anyways, glad I could help you. Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊

@@BROUBoomer when I tell people that as latchkey kids we all learned to cook at 6 WOOOSH! We had to stand on a chair to see over the stove. That was in the 80's. I did burn my bangs and eyebrows off lighting the stove once. I was older then and should have known better. You can share your tips with me, I will sit at your feet.
@BROUBoomer
@BROUBoomer 3 жыл бұрын
@@leeluv96 Hi! Awe... that's so sweet, thank you. Is there anything you wanted to know how to clean? I was a latchkey kid too, from 5th grade thru 8th grade, then mother got the day shift. By then I really didn't need mothering anymore, I was pretty self sufficient. Young people (under 40) are amazed when I tell them I've been working since I was 12. That's when I started babysitting. I took a babysitting class at 11, childcare class at 12, so I started working. One young woman looked at me and said she was still playing with Barbies at 12, she couldn't have taken care of other children. I laughed at her, you do what you've got to do to survive. Babysitting money bought: my winter coat, my rollerskates, paid for my Friday nights at the skate rink, and my school lunch. When I was 11 I was paying for my school lunch by selling 2¢ gum balls for 5¢ to 10¢ each in school. I'd get them at the convenience store near the bus stop every day. I'd spend a quarter to 50¢, have enough money for lunch and to buy more the next day. I'd been at it for two weeks before my mother realized she didn't have to give me lunch money every day. She was greatfull, and told me to keep it up, now she could afford to take lunch to work. Latchkey kids survive anyway they can. But today if you don't have an eye on your kids at every moment, your neighbors will call the police on you. It was on the local news about a year ago, the mother is sitting in a lawn chair in the driveway on the cellphone, while her 3 kids ride their bicycles in front of their house that's located in a culdesac. The neighbor didn't see her sitting on the other side of her car, so he called the police to report “children playing outside unsupervised”. Everyone I know saw that on the news, and laughed their butts off. As kids we were told, lunch is at high noon, be inside by the time the street lights come on, come to dinner when I holler for you. And that's from the age you start school at. Today's kids are too delicate for that. 😀 Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊

ATTENTION: Borax is a chemical! I actually was trying this method and a few pieces flew up when I was trying to rub it around with my rag and I got a piece in my eye! Borax is a chemical and is corrosive if it gets in the eye! I started flushing my eye at home,then went to ER and they had me used the emergency eye wash thing there. I went to the eye doctor this morning and I am VERY lucky that I had an eye cup and started flushing it right away! No damage yet but a ton of irritation! PLEASE wear safety goggles gloves and even a mask while using this other then in your washing machine!

Andrea hello from Trinidad and Tobago. My mattress got wet at the beginning of August from a clean water source (leak in the nearby kitchen sink). We put the mattress on its side but I couldnt convince my mom to leave the fan on all day and night. I had to sleep at my moms for a week. I put it in the sun but the rain came down with the sun also. I tried to dry it with the fan. Yesterday i started smelling that tell tale wet fabric smell. Is this mattress, a eurotop, still salvageable or should I throw it out? Im thinking it could just be the top layer that got wet when i put it out in the sun. Help from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹

From your previous video: Baking soda worked great to remove any odors- but it clogged my vacuum, (much like sheetrock dust does.) Will try this next time!
@BROUBoomer
@BROUBoomer 3 жыл бұрын
Hi The Original Catholic Defender, Next time first use a wisk broom and trashcan for any powdery substance like baking soda or Borax. Then vacuum up afterwards, go slowly across the mattress giving the vacuum a chance to collect everything. Afterwards clean out the vacuum cleaner and wipe it down. Don't vacuum anything else until you've emptied it out. Canister vacuums with a bag are better for mattresses. The newer fancy uprights with HEPA filter systems are not able to handle the fine particles, they will clog. On some models it voids the warranty by vacuuming up baking soda or other fine powders. Hope this helps. Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵☺️✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊 🎄🎅🤶🦌⛄❄️🌟

So...I love the video, but last time my wife used Borax on our clothes I itched everywhere, it took me months to find out what was going on, I finally asked my wife if she was cleaning clothes with something new. She told me Borax, we stopped using it for a while and the itching stopped. I am scared to death what that would do to me on a mattress...lol. Of course I was the only one to itch. Our new baby boy and little girl left us with gifts on our new mattress so I'm trying to figure out some good solutions. I may modify your idea with baking soda....if it doesn't work I'll use Borax and cross my fingers and put back on the cover....lol....Anyway, great video!

I use hydrogen peroxide pour onto mattress, then water to dilute it, let it sit about 30 min or less depending on the stain or if it is urine. I press a towel down until all extra liquid is absorbed. Bed will still be damp/wet but not soaked, then sprinkle liberal amounts of baking soda over the top of where you put the HP solution. Let it dry, brush off or use shop vac to remove the dried baking soda. This combo has removed stains, urine, and smells. Works every time. I have done the entire mattress as needed twice per year and spot treat when there are stains. I only use the borax for deep cleaning couch cushions and stuff animals, then wash normal hot cycle and air dry.

No offense but because foam mattresses like Tempur-pedic are made of petroleum oil, I’d advise you take it to the curb instead of wasting anymore time or money on it. You’re better off investing in a 100% latex, cotton or wool combo. They last longer plus it won’t off gas into your lungs and skin.

I hate to tell you this but if your mattress was looked at under a scientific microscope there would be living/moving things in there 🔬😳 they live off your dead skin. Even if it's not bed bugs it would be some type of microscopic bacteria that eats the skin you shed. Try holding a black sock tight over the nozzle of your vacuum cleaner, go over your mattress & it'll look like you vacuumed talc. That's your skin, we all shed it overnight & the only way to stop it would be to wrap yourself & your mattress in clingfilm (can't remember what you call it in the US, but it's stretchy plastic wrap that you'd wrap sandwiches in. Is it seran wrap or something?) It doesn't mean you're dirty, don't get so offended 😊
