My trowels are spotless, i give them a wet and dry almost every working day. It takes minutes! I have a bit of ocd when it come to looking after things i have paid for and rely on to earn my living. Every Job im on for more than a day i soak my buckets and throw in my hand board and bucket trowel in so they stay like new.. as a domestic spread i get work through being clean and tidy in peoples house.. i even have traveling foot wear and hoodie so that if I look at a job on the way home I present a nice clean image... The van even gets cleaned inside and out on a weekly basis... 😆

White malt vinegar also works as it remover any rust which the limescale is stuck to. It ends up looking like it shed its skin by the morning lol

When I was in the game I accidentally found out that soaking them in Diluted Ribena for a few hours did the same job ... But that keeping a piece of angle grinder blade in your tool bucket was even better .... a quick wet swish at the end of the week was all it needed 👍😎

Do you sprinkle more bicarb everytime you scrub the trowel mate ?
@Nikolay0617 ай бұрын
Soaking does work. You just gave it a quick scrub every now and then. It'll look brand new if you do that over a weekend. Hot water rinse will speed it up

I guess I'm looking that the people I've learned from always made sure their trowels were clean. Especially the handles, I can't stand dirty handles now. I tend to spend 5 minutes just giving them a quick clean, either when I'm packing or before I use them. I'm a bit ocd about that stuff though tbh as I feel how clean they are represent you.
@AlexMorleyPlastering Жыл бұрын
Totally agree with the handle. Can’t stand gear on the handle. On the blade not so much.
@spaldychops Жыл бұрын
@@AlexMorleyPlastering Yeah when i first started my handles were covered, gives you blisters and makes it slide all over. Wearing gloves seems to make this difficult too. I don't wear them anymore.

Hey i had a question about some old trowels..so my dad passed away. He left behind a bunch of tools. Concrete and drywall trowels. Ive noticed that alot of the really older models/ vintage from like the late 90s early 2000s have a almost ring sound to them. Like they make a sheetmetal type of noise even with slightest touch and they finish really nice. My newer marshalltown and kraft trowels barely make any noise at all they almost feel like plastic when i tap on them because they dont make a lot of noise. I was thinking maybe a steel shank/ spine on the trowel was the cause but the spine has no rust at all so must be aluminum/magnesium idk. They just feel awesome and different. Maybe thats just what worn trowel feels like idk lol new as a concrete finisher barely on my first year lol

Sorry to hear your dad passed away. That’s terrible. Amazing to hear your following in the same trade as him. As far as the trowels. Difficult to say without seeing them. Can you send a picture of them to me on instagram. @Plastering_alexmorley and I’ll have a look. But generally speaking older tools are better as the quality of the construction tends to be better. I’d consider using them once you get some experience in the trade.

@AlexMorleyPlastering Жыл бұрын
Hi Mace it’s probably the best all round trowel, that will last you year to come. There are other trowels that give a better finish, but they have drawbacks to them such as being Carbon, etc.

And if you don't have Bicarb' about & you but you have some diluted blackcurrant juice in the fridge, soak it for a few hours in some of that! .... Found out accidentally when I used my flask back in the day to take a cool drink to work ... Just a thought! :-)

Any plasterer worth his salt knows from beginning to serve his time how to keep his trowel clean. A bucket of clean water and a water brush .A trowel in this mess doesn't belong to a plasterer,it may belong to someone who has bought a toolbag and some tools and calls himself a plasterer. Is this a joke?
