Today I got my first turkey. With my car. Hit a young hen and felt bad about it. Turned around and put her in the back of my vehicle then continued on to my shopping. After putting my groceries away, I watched your video, then out to the garage I went. Thankfully, none of my neighbors decided to walk their dogs past my house. HOA would've loved that. Thanks to you, I now have meat for tomorrow's supper in my fridge. Watching your video made it easy, and I sure do appreciate that. God bless.

To anyone out there leaving legs in the field your shorting yourself out of some great eats. Look up hank shaw's Turkey leg recipies. I save mine and make carnitas out of them. They are now one of my favorite parts of the bird. Good luck to everyone this spring if you get one try a new recipe with the legs in your crock pot and you won't be disappointed.

Whats game stock ?? Do u make it or dose it come like chicken broth
@mikekupper6222
@mikekupper6222 4 жыл бұрын
JT 1200 I make my own game stock and chicken broth. Basically you take the bones, cut them into chunks, be sure and use the joints with some meat and cartilage and what all left on. I’m talking deer and elk that I have harvested and butchered myself, or chickens I use the backs after processing them. Then roast the bones in the oven a bit, get them nice and toasty but not cooked. Then put them into a large pot with root vegetables, whatever sounds good to you. And set that to a low boil for about 24 hours. This will cook the bone marrow along with everything else and make a highly nutritious and delicious stock. Filter out all of the stuff and pressure can the liquid stock. I use the stock all year anytime I need liquid for cooking. You can find KZbin vids on how to make it to. Thanks for your message

Turkey legs are worth keeping regardless of what anyone says. I put them in a crock pot and slow cook them on low and the meat falls off the bone. There are a lot of tendons, but I pull all the meat off and put it in cream of chicken soup with onion and carrots. Once the carrots are done I throw in frozen pees and make buttermilk biscuits. Pour everything over the biscuits and it is great !
@justingreen938

These are honestly all the things that I have done since I started Turkey hunting several years ago. Glad to see that someone I look up to in the hunting world does the same! One thing I'd recommend for the legs though, Waddy...slow cook them for about 5-6 hours and you can pull the meat and make amazing pulled Turkey leg sandwiches! Throw in any kind of your favourite seasonings or vegetables into the mix too and maybe a tiny bit of broth. You'll be amazed how much tender the leg meat really gets. Little to no waste and no messing around with the bones and tendons inside the leg as the meat will just come right off. Turkey season here in Ontario, Canada in about a month or so. I cannot wait to get back out there. Best of luck to all the Turkey hunters across North America and the world. Let's all self isolate in the best way possible by sending time in the great outdoors! Cheers!

I throw nothing away. With a little effort. Cut legs off. Thighs off. Boil down, take meat off bones. Add carrots celery. Onion, if needed some chicken broth. Or crock pot. Add noodles, great meal, turkey deserves this. If this was 1756. Etc that bird would be a family meal and then some. Wing bone calls, nice fan tail trophy, beard, turkey feather for my arrows. I keep lovers, hearts for the dogs, equal to a can of dog food, save the spurs. This honorable bird deserves every part to be used to do other wise is a sin. . Michael wardell should promote and encourage the total use of the bird, birds hes killed or anyone else. Many young hunters read his blogs. I have hunted 38 years. 492 kills, I've honored each kill with respect. The bird deserves this. A guy I know threw the bird haphazardly in the back of his truck like it was nothing I jumped all over his case. He was surprised I dont care, the great LARRY BENOIT never hung his deer by the horns. Felt it was disrespectful, I agree. Most birds ride on my front seat. Like john MCDANIEL great Turkey hunter, author I sit down next to the great bird and celebrate his life with a can of coke, and maybe a great italian sandwich, I have let a few hard birds walk under the bed, I felt better to have him live and seen him in the field all fanned out after the season, I felt better than killing him. Maybe let one walk one day u will be a better turkey hunter for it, rich tiberio. EASTERN ASSASSIN

Michael, you are the turkey man. I've been taking 3-4 Turkey's a year for the past quite a few years, but still learned a few things from your video. I used to not use the legs either due to trouble vs payout, but not anymore. I found a quick fast, easy and delicious way to use those legs. All you need is a slow cooker or crock pot, some southwest peppers (various), some adobo sauce and green chilies. Slow cook it down and turn the meat into the best street taco turkey meat ever. I won't leave the legs in the woods ever again. Try it this season and post back what you think!

I have a small pair of pruners with 20 inch handles. snip the leg off 3 inches above the knee, skin out the leg and thigh....... separate the legs and thighs....... wrap both legs and thighs with tin foil with 2 of packs of the dry Lipton onion soup mix packs sprinkled all over the legs and thighs inside..... put the ball of tin foil with the legs and thighs and with the soup mix inside the tin foil into a crock pot.......add unsalted chicken broth out of a can or box fill up the crock pot half way, don't worry the tin foil will allow the broth to leak inside and stew up the legs and thigh....... slow cook on medium for 8 hours.... take those legs and thighs out and the meat just falls off the bone and all those tooth picks in the legs fall off when you pull off the meat with a fork, most of the time I add some veggies and potatoes about an hour and 1/2 half before its all done......its so good it'll curl your toes, true story.......this isn't my first rodeo........ its just like pot roast !

I use to watch the two guys who invented double bow wack turkeys I still hunt out of my old DB. Michael your father is so proud of you and if I had young sons I’d have em follow you, I know you’ve been on tv a long time but your still a good Christian man and great hunter. This is a great video for a new comer to a new turkey hunter on how to take out the breast. The easy way. Plus feet and beard. Good simple video. God bless.
