Good video Sam, our process exactly! One more step I do is to pull the shower sump motor from the bottom strainer basket as hairs can accumulate in the tiny impeller.

Does the motor pull up. Or is there some fasteners to remove?

I have five units and two pumps as well. I ordered extre strainers so I remove the two and replace with the bromide loaded ned ones to close the strainers right away. Also, I cut the hose after the pumt and added a connector with a valve and hose connection for the dockside hose. Every time I clean my strainers, once a week, I leave the sea cocks off, connect the hose, open the valve and flush fresh water through all the coils for half hour. Keeps the salt from building up

Hi Sam, Mike in Nassau with the SeaRay 480 MY that you didn't buy. Great video. If you spend a lot more time in salt water you need to take the next step and use Barnacle Buster to flush all of the sea water cooling parts of the individual units. Once a year should do the trick. Videos available at the Trac Ecological website. It will double the life of your units.

You may not have to fully remove the wingnuts (lessens the chance of dropping one, or its washer, in the bilge). Loosen the one on the slotted side of the lid until the hinged bolt can tilt out of the way. Then loosen the other enough to lift and swivel the lid away from the top of the strainer.

Would spa chlorine tablets work in place of the bromine tablets?

Not sure? I was advised to use the brominating tablets. Others have suggested putting a small piece of copper pipe in the strainer basket. It probably varies on what type of water... Salt, fresh, brackish. Need a chemist to weigh in!

I use 4-5 bromine tablets and 2 copper pipe couplers in the AC basket. And have two baskets, one ready to go. Change every week or two in Florida. More often at anchor.
