I'm using reclaimed wood from the old barns in the back of my 224-year-old farmhouse reno. So far, we've put 1 beam vertical in the kitchen as a support, and planks are being prepped for floors and trim. All it's costing me is time, labor, and cleaning/sanding materials.

Thanks for the video. Which step would you use the nylon wheel for the restorer? Thanks again
@TheDenBarnwood
@TheDenBarnwood Жыл бұрын
The nylon wheel is not as abrasive as wire which is an option for more delicate surfaces.

Hello, very useful video, for which I thank you very much! I'm not a carpenter, but as far as I understand the tool you used to go through thousands of meters of beams is a grater. What exactly is this carpenter's grater? Brand, power and so on? And accordingly, does the wire attachment have any peculiarities for it? Thanks in advance!

@@aaroncavanaugh7017 the Restorer is featured many times in our DIY builds. This is what was referred to as the grater. Product review videos are not our thing, well not right now anyways.

I came into a bunch of barnwood beams. I sold one for $225. Too cheap. What should be a bd ft price for a finished mantel? Thx.
@TheDenBarnwood
@TheDenBarnwood 3 жыл бұрын
So many factors to consider when pricing finished mantles such as beam size, species, how it was prepared and if mounting brackets will be included just to name a few. Definitely check out your local market pricing points as a starter then adjust from there.

Very cool. Don't you have to put these in a kiln before you safely bring them in your house? I was under the impression that you need to "sanitize" the wood by killing any insect that might be living in the wood with a kiln.
@TheDenBarnwood
@TheDenBarnwood 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, kiln drying wood is the most effective method for ensuring reclaimed wood is pest free. The added bonus is that it is a controlled process producing quality wood that resists warping, cracking and other undesired effects. This sounds like a great topic for a dedicated video.
