Please don't ever use steel wool on your rims. It isn't just the harsh abrasion effect but mixing metal alloys is a first rate way to create rust and corrosion; you get great short term results but end up with bad long term effects. It's like getting a hooker for blue balls and ending up with an STD.

Either you're young or you joined a handful of detailing forums and watched every detailing video on YT and think you're a pro. #0000 steel wool has been cleaning wheels since before the recent auto detailing boom in the last 20 years. Soapy water in a spray bottle, #0000 steel wool, and light pressured elbow grease will remove oxidation, rust, contamination etc. while polishing to a high shine with NO scratching. If you are worried or want to go full wheel detail, then follow with a iron remover spray soak and rinse. Spray and clay, then microfiber wipedown, and buff. Take another clean microfiber and your favorite metal polish, wipe a light covering on let dry and buff off to a high shine. Finish with picking your fave ceramic coating, sealant, or wax to protect your hard work.

Just use Meguiars chrome wheel and tire cleaner without having to scrub the wheels. Works very well. Chrome only tho..

A special blend my ass. A Mexican with a plain old unlabeled squirt bottle always has a special blend. Are people with those unlabeled squirt bottles smarter than the big companies with their own chemists that manufacture chrome cleaner? Ive seen hundreds of these so called “special blends” in the hands of low lifes roaming the truck stop parking lots wanting to polish my big rig wheels and bumpers.
