The tip about premixing made a lot of sense! Thank You
@dustinfindsrocks
@dustinfindsrocks Жыл бұрын
Yeah that really seems to help. I don’t think it’s a good idea to pre mix and leave it sitting. I think once you add water you have 4-5 days

3:24 sure, blame it on the iron out! 😂💨 Well done video and sweet specimens. That stalagtite one was awesome and same with the broken chalcedonny one with the crystals growing through. Very cool!

😂 the iron out reacts and bubbles in the water what can I say. Thanks I thought this was a cool batch

My brother in law got those for me. Old bread crates. As long as you don’t overload them they’re stackable and work great. Hope everything works out for you Jared. Tin Foil Hat time… I wonder how KZbin is a sustainable profitable company. It seems odd to me 🤷🏻‍♂️ maybe you’ve just taught the AI robots too much about lapidary 😂 seriously though I do think they’re saving WAY too much data. Makes me wonder why 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think they’re using it to collect data for AI

@@dustinfindsrocks It is a good question I'm not sure how they are profitable, the amount of data they need to store is insane.

Hey Dustin! KZbin decided to stop giving me sub notifications for you, which is frustrating. Going to be using your tips here on some citrine I got from Cali here soon. Appreciate the guide!

Great video! How do you dispose of the water/iron out mixture when you’re finished?
@dustinfindsrocks
@dustinfindsrocks Жыл бұрын
If it’s still active use baking soda to neutralize the acid and just dump it. I haven’t had any issues killing grass or anything but I’d try to pick an out of the way area. Interesting side note some bugs and snails seem to like it! They seem to be attracted to freshly soaked pieces also if you’re cleaning things with algae on them algae seems to like it and will get greener and spread 🤷🏻‍♂️

One more question. Where did you get the blue racks that you are using?
@MobileOutdoor

Very helpful video. And some amazing pieces. For what it’s worth I think the chalcedony covered crystals are pretty cool. I know you said to rinse them off afterwards but I’ve seen some people throw them in a baking soda solution to neutralize any temaining iron out. What’s your take on that?
@dustinfindsrocks
@dustinfindsrocks Жыл бұрын
Soaking them in baking soda is definitely ideal! I’m just impatient lol. As long as the mixture wasn’t way too strong I haven’t had any issues with just rinsing them other than once I bleached some cloth I set a wet piece on 😂 if you’re displaying them on dark cloth the baking soda soak is a must!

“I wing it every time” is exactly my process with Iron Out. Works every time though. Do you still mostly dig the dam?

Do you ever heat the water/iron out and crystals for cleaning? I find it works so much faster. I have left some cleaning too long and it comes out white. Is there any way to get it back to normal? I found several of the chalcedony at Haunted Ridge and I love them. Some have another hard mineral on them. Is there a way to remove it? Thanks for all the info you share

I’ve heard that you can use a heating element to soak them in winter time but I haven’t tried. In the summer the sun warms it up. Not sure what you mean about the white. That might just be the color it is. There’s barite and limonite after marcasite on a lot of the quartz.
