Thanks for making a video with an explanation of the steps. My Mach 2 has a one way clutch with a plastic inner sleeve that then has another metal bushing that sits inside the plastic sleeve. The plastic sleeve has six notches for six small pins and try as I may, I cannot reseat those pins. Didn’t see anything on your video about this. Any ideas? TIA

Great video on how to fully take apart the Lews reels. Some are a bit different inside near the clutch system but this video gets you close to know how to confidently clean it. My only suggestion is the soak the bearings in brake clean first then oil them. from factory most are filled with grease and not oil. so adding just oil doesnt give much benefits and its doesnt mix with grease. I soak em quick which removes all the grease. then oil them. spin like high speed bearings even with stock ones. Thanks again for the great vid!

Dos the factory grease have moly in it 🤔 is pretty white. The bearing is not have a seal on it to put oil. And can you clean out the bearings with mineral sprit and put new oil in them. Just wondering.

No clue
@StingofTruth6 ай бұрын
I'm not a fan of that white grease lew's uses. To me it doesn't offer as much lubrication as it does moisture protection. I'd rather use cal's, shimano, daiwa, or penn grease (that order is my favorite to least). The bearings are shielded but not sealed. Sealed bearings are more for saltwater fishing. Shielded bearings do a pretty good job of keeping dirt out. The advantage to shielded bearings is that they are easy to oil and with sealed bearings that rubber seal has to be removed to lubricate it and that will cause some damage to the seal, plus the rubber WILL deteriorate and that can gunk up the bearings plus when it does deteriorate the bearing has nothing to protect it. I'm not sure about mineral spirits but I'd clean the bearings by getting a cloth wet with a degreaser that evaporates quickly then wipe it down and leave it to dry for a few minutes and use some reel oil to lube the bearing. I prefer lucas reel oil but daiwa, shimano, hot sauce oil, or penn oil will all work good.

I just got a used Lew's Mach 2 that definitely needs some greasing inside, but I'm too scared to take it apart and do so because every time I've done that in the past, I always got a horrible grinding every time I reassemble it, and nothing ever fixes it. :(

@@FishinwithGRAMPS So I did it with your help, and while the reel is butter smooth now, it still grinds and makes a constant noise. I believe the main gear is worn out. do you have any idea if the mach 2's all share the same parts? My cousin has a mach 2 with no spool, but it's a size 300 where mine is a size 200, do you think the parts could be interchangeable?

I had that happen. If i'm on the water I'll just pull off all the line and go down the lake and pull the line in the water, the reel it in. If at home, I'll just walk down my yard and pull off all the line, then reel it back in through the grass to straighten it out
@nastysoda9212 Жыл бұрын
Mine didn't feel great, followed your intructions to a T, evne identical oils and grease, after assembly it was grinding 10x as bad. Took it back apart, wiped everything down cometpely and regreased, and was even worse the second time. Pretty sure it's coming from the bearings in the zero stop. It's a mach 2 300, exact same reeel as you have. Bottom line, fuck all this and buy a new reel if it's not spinning well.
@FishinwithGRAMPS Жыл бұрын
these are the entry level reels from Lew's, often the most someone can afford. Video is simply meant to show someone who has them how to clean them.
