Although wheel cleaner does a great job removing the iron particles from brake dust - I stopped using it for regular washing. The reason is that it also gets within brake calipers and since they are full of brake dust due to pads being directly near - the product cannot be rinsed no matter what you do and soon the calipers start rusting. So you pretty soon get that surface rust on your calipers that is constantly spreading. Now I just use alkaline shampoo in lower dilution with water - first with foam lance and let it sit for a while to levitate the dirt, rinse it, and then the same shampoo on wash mitt to clean the surface - no more problems with calipers rusting and wheels look perfect. So now I use wheel cleaner ONLY if wheels are not mounted on a car and I want to prepare and coat with a special wheel coat before the season or store them for the season sleep. I also use claybar on wheel barrel before the coating, since not all contamination is metalic and therefore the iron cleaner does not remove it.

Yves and Gyeon Team, Any concern to the feedback shared here from Igor? Is potential risk of rust/damage to calipers via Gyeon Wheel Cleaner something we need to be cognizant of as we use the product for regular cleanings on a weekly/bi-monthly basis?
@GOINFINITI3 жыл бұрын
@@ArtemMoshkovich Artem just to be clear - this is not GYEON product problem - all reactive wheel cleaners do this. I tried other brands also - doesn't matter if they were "acid free" wheel cleaners or not. The problem is that product remains in tight caliper spaces that cannot be rinsed totally and keeps reacting there. SInce pads are full of metals and calipers are in direct contact it is eating away the metal particles on the caliper surfaces touching them and corrosion occurs on calipers themselves. It is a less of a problem if calipers are painted and have good high quality finish on them - like Brembo for example. But regular iron calipers used on most of the cars - start rusting right away.
@ArtemMoshkovich3 жыл бұрын
@@GOINFINITI Bit of a selfish question here, but I'll ask since the moment calls for it. As a Tesla Model 3 Performance owner ith the red (painted) brake calipers that have also been Gyeon ceramic coated, do you think I have reason for concern, or not so in my case?
@GOINFINITI3 жыл бұрын
@@ArtemMoshkovich Not so much - as long as that paint on calipers if holding and is not cracked from heat, chipped or something it represents a physical barrier that is shielding the caliper material beneath it. Ceramic coating again ads an extra layer of protection. But as soon as I see a car with exposed calipers or caliper paint that is in bad state - I'm not touching them with wheel cleaner. I got used to washing with other methods so much, that I don't miss wheel cleaner at all anymore.
@GYEON_official3 жыл бұрын
Nothing to be concerned about, really. Most modern cars have painted calipers, some have not and these will be affected but this will happen anyway over time due to road salt or whatever cleaner, a poreus open metal is fragile. I don’t want to dive in the Ph myths, all I can say is work smart: if your wheels are coated and you do weekly washes it isn’t always needed to use Iron WheelCleaner. A proper rinse should get a lot of stuff off. In the video I had driven 4500 Km without cleaning my wheels, that needs a different approach. I hope this make sense. Regards, Y.

Almost all cleaning products will do something to unpainted calipers. It’s a matter of time. For the price a car costs these days, calipers should be painted imho. Get them painted if you can and coat them after that, the only way to keep them looking good. Regards, Y.

Hi Y, How long would Wet Coat last on a wheel that is driver maybe 2-3 times a month. It's a garage queen. Just so I know how often to top up.
@AB-80X Жыл бұрын
4-6 weeks at best. Remember that the degrading process starts right away with the moisture in the air. And when you drive it, the wheel surface gets more wear than most of the car itself. Both due to heat and brake dust, but also because the top of the wheel see twice the speed of the car. What kind of wheels are they? There might be better solutions. I'm a huge fan of wet coat, but it also has its limits.

Will washing with a pre-wash (bilt hamber touch-less in my case), which is not ph neutral, damage the gyeon rim coating?
@GYEON_official2 жыл бұрын
You can have many different Ph levels depending on your PIR but Q² Rim will withstand from Ph 2 to Ph 11. Regards, Y.
@AB-80X Жыл бұрын
True. I will add this if I may, and this is based off of my own experiments with both Touch-Less and the classic Auto Foam. I have tested both on Rim and Kamikaze Stance. Here's something interesting though. While Auto Foam is higher in the pH, it seems to affect the coatings a lot less. This also goes for Mohs for example. Not entirely sure what it is that is in Touch-Less but from my experience the ceramic coatings don't like it very much. If you wash often, do the following. Buy yourself a good 10l jug with either a pump or a tap on it. In this you mix so that you have a blend that is about pH 10. This will be a bit of a chore the first time, but it's doable. Try mixing a 3.5% PIR. What you then do is to spray the mix from your foam lance into a bucket. Then just buy some pH testing strips and see where you are. It will vary depending on the hardness of the water, so I can't tell you just use this or that. For some it will be 4% for others 3%. At any rate, just get it close and keep it below 11 as Yves suggest. Now what you then do is to rinse out you bucket and this time we are looking for pH 8. However, rather than messing around with a new mix, just use the mixing screw. Try giving it a full turn for example and see what that gets you. If you have a lance with a adjustment screw that clicks, just try it until you are there. Then take a magic marker and write in the bottom of the flask how many clicks equals a pH of 8. Now why both 8 and 11? Because if you wash often you don't need 10 or 11. This means you have a setting on your foam lance for regular washes and a setting for that big deep clean in the fall and spring. It basically means that you have one pre-blend that can easily be used as both low and high pH. Remember one of the most important rules of fun detailing. Make it easy🙂 This will require an initial setup to learn what's what, but after washing a few times, you'll be so happy that all you have to do is to fill your foam lance with a pre-mix and turn the screw. No more mucking about with funnels, pumps, soap all over and what not. And most importantly, your coating will last a long time🙂 Oh a bit of a pro tip. If you like your Auto Foam to cling a bit better like your Touch-Less does, mix in 100 ml. of Chemical Guys Sticky Snowball foam in that 10l jug. It works well as a foam booster in such an application. I have found that on hot days this gives you a bit more time to work with things. You can even make it thicker if you like on really hot days. The white foam stays fairly cool and acts as a bit of a barrier on the car. In that situation, add an extra 20ml to the foam lance itself when filling it with the pre-mix. Have fun. Hope this helps. It's a lot of writing, but much less complicated than it seems😀

It is. However be aware that you can potentially have a few initial stops with literally nothing on the pedal. Ask me how I know. I put a small dent in my 812. Only cosmetic and easily fixed, but annoying. There was literally next to nothing on the pedal for a few seconds. I was only doing 30 kph. After doing a few bedding stops, all was back to normal. These iron removers can make the discs a bit "greasy" after the wash.

@@grigoristeo Remember that this is a demonstration video. What a lot of us do is to first do the wheels with iron remover and the tyres. Then rinse that off the wheels. What you can then do is to foam the entire car including the wheels with your prewash. While that prewash is working, you can use the brush on the wheels to get the last bit using the soap on the wheels in conjunction with a small bucket if needed be. After you're done, wash off the prewash of everything. Then use your contact wash on the car itself after putting a foam on it for lubrication. After you have done the contact wash then do Wet Coat on everything including the wheels. Dry everything and do the windows and finally tyres. This is what I do and have done for years.

Not much point in having fine rims, or Exotic aftermarket rims if you're going to only give them a cursory clean. When the wheels on your car cost as much as some people's whole car, or more, you look after the wheels with the same care as the paint. Also, some tires are awfully expensive, too... they deserve some TLC.
