Today, I just bought a used '09 G37x sedan AT w/manual mode. Drove it home 60 miles, highway, city and back-roads. No problems at all. Car seems(ed) to be running like a champ and in great shape for the year and mileage '09 135k. Stopped at the store, turned off the car etc, apx 30 minutes before I began driving home, came to a stop sign and upon accelerating from the stop, the car jerked and stuttered, power dropped way down. Pulled into gas station immediately, freaking out, parked it, gave it some gas to rev it and the engine would seem to wobble and shake the car all while not getting the revs up due to lack of power. I had to get the car home as I didn't even have the new plate on yet. So, what I ended up having to do for the last 4-5 miles home, was that I found that by shifting into manual/sport mode, matching the revs as best as I could to get up to 5th or 6th gear, then I could get up to the speed limit and while still low on power, the car ran smoothly. Came to more stop signs and red lights etc, every time I tried to accelerate in auto, there was just no power and the transmission didn't seem to want to shift up unless I quickly switched to manual mode and got it up to a higher gear. Even in 5th, 6th or 7th gear the power was very limited as well. Got home. Parked it. Saturday night ruined. Nobody to look at until Monday. I did however speak to the dealership before they closed and one thing they mentioned was that perhaps during the pre-sale detailing, done just before I left the lot, as they power washed/sprayed the hood, maybe a sensor or something got wet and is causing failure or limp mode or something like that. I don't know, maybe. I've been reading about and watching videos about dirty mass af sensors, dirty throttle bodies and re-setting the ecu. Hopefully the issue is that simple and all is well. If not, thank God I got a warranty lol. Always something. Anyone experience something similar?

Be very cautious and careful!.. In my case I actually disconnected my throttle body and removed it because I wanted to get a better cleaning. Little did I know that disconnecting it would cause a big problem. Not to mention there's a ring of some sort that sits the entire circumference right where the butterfly sits. Despite what they say I wouldn't mess with the butterfly either! Currently I'm receiving the high idle code and the complete relearning procedure doesn't work! I've read that I will have to take my car to the dealer to have the ECU read by some special equipment they have. I might have to by a new throttle body as well.

The idle relearn 9:08 works. I've disconnected the throttle body a couple of times, touched the butterfly and even upgrade to a bigger 75mm throttle body. Each time you disconnect the throttle body harness or touch the butterfly, the idle will be messed up. Once you properly complete the idle relearn 9:08 will it correct itself. Disconnecting the battery will do nothing. It's been a couple of months now. What did you find out was the actual problem?

If cleaning MAF would clear the Check engine light on? I used to send it to the shop where i installed it. They didnt see any wrong with it. They just clean MAF and some filter in the front and reset. Its been abt 6 Months and the check engine light came back. Whenever the that light is on, sometime the car is not respond to the acceleration and i have to turn the car off and wait for a few second to turn it back on to drive like normal. Can you clean the throttle body without unplugging it? like spraying the outer area and gently wiping without touching the butterfly valve and letting it dry long enough before putting the intake tube back on. I had to do a throttle/idle/ecu relearn before and it was a pain (you make it look easy). But I really want to clean the MAF and throttle cause i'm getting crap city fuel economy.
@MotordyneG356 жыл бұрын
Yes, no need to unplug it and you can do it that way. But, to fully clean it you need to push the butterfly valve open. Seriously, try the idle relearn right now. If you start my video when I have stopclock out while in your car, it is so easy. You really can't mess up and then once you feel comfortable doing the idle relearn procedure, clean the throttle body.

Probably a long shot, but do you know off hand if this procedure is more or less the same, or similar, for most cars? I'm not the greatest with cars but I've been trying to fix an idol issue with my Mitsubishi Galant for the last year or so. Mitsubishi dealership tried telling me my best option was to pay $3,000 for a replacement used engine (lol), or pay $500 for them to open the engine block, and that doesn't include anything else after its open. Such as a cracked piston which they'd charge $1500 for (lol again). If you don't know, It's all good. Sort of sucks that Mitsubishi Galants/Lancers don't have a big community unless its a Ralliart or an Evo.
@MotordyneG356 жыл бұрын
Cleaning the MAF is basically a universal procedure for all cars, the only difference is the configuration of the air intake boxes that hold the MAF's and how to get to the MAF's will be different. The principal is all the same. How many miles are on your Galant? You can defiantly try this and see if it works, it will not hurt it that is for sure. What has me concerned is if a shop is telling you that a new engine is what you need, I think you have bigger problems than a dirty MAF, unless that is 1 shady shop! Is the engine making knocking noises? Are you overheating? Or is it just a rough idle issue?
@RainAion6 жыл бұрын
The Galant has 105,000 miles on it. And yeah It's only an idle issue. When driving its fine, when idling at a stop light or a stop sign or just sitting in park it starts shaking. It only starts doing that when its under 1,000 RPMs, above that its fine. If I put it in neutral, it stabilizes a little bit, but it still does it. Changed the spark plugs, changed the o2 sensors, changed the third ignition coil and nothing. I don't remember the code on the service engine light off the top of my head but it was a coil 3 misfire, hence why I changed that ignition coil. The place I took it to for them to look at it was an actual Mitsubishi dealership lmao. I was a little annoyed that them of all people couldn't figure it out. Edit: One of my other thoughts was the idol air control valve but I haven't looked into that yet, I don't even know where that is on my car at the moment. No over heating and no knocking noises.
