I tried this steel wool, lemon and salt method on the heavily molded edge of my wooden cutting board today; it kind of works but I found that it requires like nearly half an hour of heavy scrubbing. I may try to use 2 different grades of sanding paper next time.

I used sanding option on wood ... its completely removed everything in just 2 mins .. if anyone has sanding equipment or sanding paper..just use that .. simple
@sumit6190p2 жыл бұрын
Sand paper is a good option but not sure if it's way too abrasive on the wood.

Got a problem with my cutting board having a few cracks in it, meaning the mold has likely set up shop *inside* the board itself. Any advice for that, or do i just need a new cutting board?
@Eric4bz2 жыл бұрын
@Mr. James Tore the thing apart. The board was hollow, a bunch of half inch strips of wood held together by felt. The mold was so deep inside that we could only kill the blooming mycelium and not its roots.

@Mr. James Sadly, living the apartment life, so making one is out of the question, but only a five minute walk from a walmart, so can pick one up from there. Using a boring, thin, plastic cutting mat in the meanwhile. The saddest part imo is that the board was too warped and the interior too moldy to turn it into a ouija board =P

@Mr. James While I thank you for the tips with the peroxide, I didn't come here to ask for a preach about some man-made mythology. Last bible I had was given away because I don't buy any of the stories. Besides, Ouija boards are a hoax. They don't invoke spirits. It's based on collective consciousness - the subconscious movements of everyone holding it is why it moves. Hence why they say 'don't play alone' because on your own, it doesn't work.

@Mr. James Likewise with the bat in hand thing, but I've always seen it as a sociological construct. God is all loving, all knowing, and all powerful - the person man should strive to be. Wise, compassionate, and able to rise to any challenge to protect his home, self and family. Heaven? The place we should make on Earth. Regardless, thanks for affirming my theory on the peroxide. Used two bottles but didn't manage to kill it, so rip.

Are you sure a steel scrubbing pad is the best choice? Steel is obviously harder than wood and will cut the wood allowing more moisture in! Seems a steel scrubbing pad on wood is not the best advice to be promoting. Guessing the mold is all on one end because the board wasn't properly dried after cleaning and regularly left in the dish rack to dry, causing all of the leftover moisture to settle on the end.

Tried this. It is not coming off.

so basically just sand the top layer..
@Mr.Steve-O3 жыл бұрын
I would do this method and then sandpaper like 160 - 180 grit then 320 to seal the pores and then season the board after

Buy a new one. Those spores will not die
@bhough4102 ай бұрын
Especially when a steel scrubbing pad is used. That will cut the wood worse and allow more moisture inside. Absolutely terrible choice for a scrubber on wood! I've read highly diluted bleach or vinegar can work depending on how deep the spores are. Obviously thoroughly clean after using either product.
