This may sound crazy but I wish there could be a clean out your closet day in which people everywhere and anywhere are celebrating the fresh start and there's comradery and support online to help build momentum.

I like to treat cleaning out my closet like a shopping trip. So instead of trying to judge weather or not I wear or need something I ask myself: Would I buy it again? This keeps it positive, fun and prevents me from throwing out things I might just need new combination pieces for.

The Kon Mari method changed my life! I got rid of so much unused & old stuff & not only that- this book totally healed me from my shopping addiction!

Loving the hair like this. I just cleaned out my closet yesterday and could not be happier with the results! I was definitely holding on to sentimental items, things I haven't worn in far too long, and found some things I had completely forgotten about! There is something so liberating and energizing about decluttering

I'm about to clean out my multiple closets this weekend. Just doing it! Love the advice and funny side comments. Must have humor to get through my clothing stash. Here in South Jersey we have four seasons. I can't keep hauling all these seasonal clothes to-and-fro. My personal challenge is to distill down to a year round wear in main closet and two smaller cloths be truely seasonal wear. Anyway it's a start of an idea. Wish me luck as I need it. Your sound advice will be my go to when I find myself floundering and stalling. Big Thanks for posting this video!

One of the things I learned from the Kondo book is how to fold t-shirts so I see them all when I open the t-shirt drawer. I decluttered after reading the book & slowly replacing items with quality pieces.

gigicanoga33 Yep, same. I'm so glad I followed my instincts and bought her book. Not only is my entire home organized (except for my books, still working on those), but a bonus has been that packing for trips has gotten so easy! Before I'd have to dig through jumbled clothes to see what I had and then refold them before putting them in my bag or suitcase. Now I simply open my drawers, immediately see what I have and put them right in my bag. And since I have so many fewer clothes in my closet, it's much easier to guage what I have there, too. I'm not straining to push clothes aside, etc. It's cut packing time in less than half.

Since I have seen your channel I have been cleaning my closet out. Then I had to clean my closet out again because I had people to give me clothes. Then I didn't have no room in the closet. So that is why. I try to clean my closet out once a year. Then I took your challenge this year and I had brought some things. So this is why I had to clean out my closet. I have found my style and it's classy chic. You have helped me out alot. Thank you.

Loved the video Lauren !! I've actually read that book "the life-changing magic of tidying up" and I agree to a certain extent with her method . But a lot of the time a white Tshirt won't bring you joy but that white tshirt in a complete outfit might ! I agree with it with more miscellaneous items lol .

Please read Marie Kondo's book (Life-changing magic of tidying up)! First of all it's about so much more than cleaning out your closet, and second of all, her guidance is priceless. I decluttered my entire apartment following her method and my home life has been 100% more manageable ever since. She doesn't say to get rid of clothes willy-nilly. In fact her book addresses a lot of the questions and issues you mention in this video. It's definitely well worth a read.

I agree, the book in no way urges you to throw out everything "willy nilly". The comments were uninformed, unprofessional and condescending. I watched until the end to see if she redeemed herself. So disappointing. I would recommend the book The Curated Closet if someone isn't into the Kondo method.

Karen .c.h It's a shame if people are turned off the book because of her comments! I love Lauren's channel and I hope she gives the book a read before saying any more about it.

I use a closet visualisation app to record all the clothes and accessories I have. Although preliminary work is heavy (since you need to take pics and especially when you have loads of clothes), after all the hard work I can get a clear vision of the pieces I already have and the pieces I need to add to my wardrobe. I can also record my daily outfits. After a period of time, I can come back and see which pieces I wear most and which I wear least.

Speaking of trippin box, I usually use it as a storage box for eBay sale. If I put "maybe" clothes on eBay and in the 30-day listing time they get unsold and I don't wear them, they will go to charity.

Fantastic! I didn't see you in Facebook life this time. Thanks for sharing this tips ! I'm taking a lot of notes. I read the Marie Kondo books last year and helps for start the process to "detox my closet ", but I'm not a crazy fun person to get rid of the things. I call "detox my closet " that fanny way ! Because I lost so much weight since I started to take care my wardrobe, and make different choices for my style. It's incredible how much influence your personal style decision do in the rest of the life. Take care, love from Argentina.

Doing a closet cleanse with another person may work well for many people. But it would not work well for me. I have a very clear and well-honed aesthetic, style, and personal brand. I know what my best features are and how to play them up. I know which features I'm trying to downplay, too, and which styles and colors will and won't work well for me. I know the challenges and opportunities that I will face when shopping for clothes. In short, I know who I am and do not welcome the input of well-meaning others who chime in their thoughts about what they like to see me wear. Frankly, I don't care. No one's opinion counts about what I wear or don't wear but my own. For these reasons, I shop alone, too. I don't want anyone in my head telling me what he or she thinks looks good on me or what I should buy. I spend quite a bit of time educating myself about style (hence, I enjoy learning from you, Lauren, and from many other excellent resources). I critically evaluate and plan my wardrobe. And I love to try new ideas that I learn here and elsewhere. But I do this in my own time and in the quiet of my own thoughts. Perhaps you can temper your advice just a bit to accommodate those of us who do not welcome the opinion of non-professional others in our life. For some of us, our personal style is just too personal for that.

I really like the maybe box... sometimes I go back and I take a peace out and add to an outfit. I used to give away many things and later regretted because they're the perfect item to either add to an outfit or wear it by itself. I'm 52 so I have " some " experience, believe me. Do give away everything! Store in a maybe box. In the basement 🤣😂😜

Great video Lauren. I am cleaning out my closet tomorrow morning and taking a load to the consignment shop. $$$ I will be putting the money towards Sugar Mamma's 1000 dollar project! However, I am a little freaked out I won't have anything to wear after this closet cleanse.

okay so I have a question or two. So I am not a very big shopper because I have a tendency to feel like nothing looks good on me so I don't go shopping unless I'm really in the mood to. Which causes me to not have a ton of new choices in my closet. Also, that makes me want to never get rid of anything because I never know when I'm going to be in the mood to shop. What do you suggest I do to get rid of some clothes? Because my closet is getting super full. Thank you and also I really enjoyed this video.

So, people ought not to wear what they like, but should concern themselves with what everyone else will think of them, and dress accordingly? So in order to be successful, we must all return to the days of our adolescent insecurities, dressing and living our lives in such a way as we think the world expects of us; hoping that that if we affect a style of dress that we don't particularly like, but that the world deems as acceptable; just maybe, someone will notice and validate our existence. People PAY you for this sort of advice?
