Liberty Art Nouveau Pewter Vase with Clutha Glass. Pewter Cleaning Tips.
This is how I like to clean and look after antiques pewter from Liberty. It’s simple care and maintenance, something to highlight certain areas and give the piece a new zest of life, without over cleaning and ruining the original patination.
This vase was sold through Liberty circa 1910 and screams Art Nouveau. It has its original Clutha green glass free blown vase and carry’s company stamps on the base of the pewter from Liberty.
Hope this is of help and get in touch if you have a question, or a suggestion for a video you’d like me to make.
Thanks, David Harper
PS. You might know me from BBC TV shows like Bargain Hunt, Flog It and the Antiques Road Trip, but if you subscribe to my channel, I'll give you free tutorials, advice, top tips, trade secrets, quiz’s and antiques, car and art reviews...as well as a bit of unusual history!
The channel is developing, so I’m always keen to hear suggestions, so get in touch!
Cheers, David

Very interesting David ...Thanks for that. Would be interested to learn how to carry out basic care for wooden furniture...when to wax...when to polish or not as the case may be. Regards.

Shiny pewter = new tat made last year. Old pewter is supposed to look old. I''ve never put pewter in a dishwasher. Aluminum doesn't go into one either - ruins the finish even on new pieces. My mother killed my meat tenderizer by putting it in the dishwasher. (replaced it with a stainless steel one) One trick to getting all the water off is to use your oven. Set it on the lowest heat (mine goes to 150F) and turn it OFF when you open to put the piece in. Let it sit a while and then proceed from there.

It's a beautiful piece. The pewter and green glass look great together. Does the wax eventually get a little grimy? What happens if you skip that part?

You can leave out the wax part, but as long as you buff the wax well in the beginning, it shouldn’t get grimy. D

I have an Artina Zinn pitcher with grapes and it has darker spots I tried vinegar and flour, it made it lighter, it was almost black, but the spots are still there. What do you recommend.

silver polish that is non-abrasive works best. I use "Scotchgard Tarni-Shield Silver Polish" with great results, but it will definitely remove all the tarnish.

Sorry I wish you would have done the inside. I offer no offense. I could hear my mother’s spirit saying this to me. Clean the whole piece.
