This is a quick explanation about how to clean the lid of your Instant Pot 7-in-1. Any products seen in the background are not any kind of product placement, they are just there because my kitchen is a mess. Happy cooking!

Thank you for this very thorough & straight forward video! I've had my IP for just over a week. I've been "feeling my way around" by making boiled eggs and (incredibly delicious) chicken soup. However, last night, I made a newbie mistake of overloading my IP with way too many baby back ribs ... OMG what a total freakin' mess! When I engaged the release valve, I was horrified to see a lava flow of greasy foam spewing up, out , & all over my IP, kitchen counter, & whatever happened to be within its 2 foot radius. It was a sight to behold - & it took me 2 hours to clean up the mess! Needless to say, I would not have known how to do this without your tutorial & probably would have tossed my IP to the trash! Thanks for saving the day!

Sorry to hear it but sounds like a mistake I would probably make as well. When I have a pkg of ribs and use carrots and potatoes as a base in my crockpot, I'm literally cramming the ribs in to fit. Glad to see this no no beforehand.

Thank you gobs... I was trying to find out if the "black exhaust valve" just set on, but it was not clear in the instructions book. I did a roast last night that was melt-in-your-mouth delicious but made a bit of a mess in serving, so thank you.

Never thought I'd purchase a pressure cooker, but this one has revolutionized my life kzbin.infoUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg It has so many different options & I am now able to toss the rice cookers & slow cookers as this is an all in one unit. There's a learning curve (like watch the amount of liquid required--I still put too much & end up with soup; however, I have the vision of the thing & it's great). Great You Tube Videos available & definitely do the practice run through to make sure it's all working before your initial cook--also that's a great training session for you.

Thanks so much! Clear and short and exactly what is needed. How often do you do all this? Certainly not every time?

Hi! I just wash it quickly with soap and water every time. I only do this big clean if I've had something spew through the release valve, or if the lid is getting to the point where it is carrying smells from previous dishes into the next dish. I think I've done it 3-4 times in 2+ years. :)

Thanks soooo much! I use mine every day and today was the first time I cleaned it. It didn't really need it -- but I was scared I was letting it go for too long. YOu're the BEST!!! :)

I'm late to the party! Thank you for making this video. Can you submerge the lid in hot, soapy water, or just use a cloth/paper towel? I've been using a paper towel since I'm too afraid to submerge it, but I wonder if it's safe or not for a more thorough cleaning. Thank you!

You forgot the release valve next to the pin you pulled off; have to take a wrench loosen it, once the nut comes off there's a rubber washer underneath that big washer holding it on, so push it through the hole. starting under the nut is a lock washer, spider washer, rubber washer. Under the release valve you pulled off is another washer. It gets pretty nasty so I always take it apart to wash it. Told my wife to look it up, she found this video so I came here to let you know. Apparently she has used it a few times and hasn't wash the other piece while I was away. It got pretty nasty lol.

Hi, do you know if it's safe to rinse the whole inside of the lid with water, including the edges, because there seems to be small gaps where the metal meets the plastic, on the inside of the lid...?...Do you think any water gets inside, underneath that metal so water is trapped so it never dries...?...i just got one and am concerned about water getting trapped inside the lid, but i'd rather rinse it than wipe it with a towel...Thank you...

I've never had a problem with water getting stuck. There aren't any electronic components in the kids so it's fine. I wouldn't leave the lid to soak in water, but washing and rinsing works great. My IP is going on 10 years old and still going strong!

@@FountainPenNews ~ Thanks so much...My main concern is mold forming underneath the metal, between the metal and plastic, and no one would know that it's there, no matter how old it is...But i've been rinsing mine anyway...Perhaps a better design would be if the metal part could detach from the top plastic so if there is water getting underneath, then it could be sure to dry...Thanks...🌸☔

@@Dawn-zo2ny I understand the concern for sure. Just the idea of mold is too much mold for me. But I live in Denver and it's a desert here so I don't worry so much about things not drying. Be sure to store your IP lid upside down on the top of your IP so that air can circulate. Good luck! BTW, in my previous comment my phone typed "there aren't any electronic components in the kids..." and it made me LOL so I'm not changing it. Ha ha!

I don't like how when I am washing the lid, water disappears into the crevices where the plastic material binds to the metal. I was more concerned about hidden bacteria in there that may build up and drip into our fresh and healthy food. Really poor design on Instant Pot's part. But everything nowadays, especially electronic, is a balance of life and death/sickness and health. I will try steam cleaning those mystery spaces on the lid. Thank you for taking the time and posting your video, even the comments were informative.

Same here, poor design. Was cleaning my lid and dead ants rinsed out of it. I have rinsed so many times and keep tapping it in my sink and they are still coming out. The lid is dishwasher safe so hopefully that truly cleans the entire lid for most people that have dishwashers. I do not have a dishwasher & am really discouraged. I can’t get this to rinse clean.

Thanks so much for all the info. I read the manual and still couldn't figure out how to take that black knob off. LOL I have one question you didn't cover. I don't have a dishwasher so I hand wash. I just bought mine and did the initial cleaning. After immersing the lid in soapy water and rinsing, I find alot of water is trapped in between the outer part of the inside of the lid. Do I have to let that dry completely before using it? Also, is it recommended to to immerse it or just wipe the interior of the lid with a soapy cloth?

Hi Sue, Do you mean between the silicon ring and the outside of the pot? I usually just wash the inside of the lid with my dish brush and hot soapy water. (I don't remove the silicon ring unless things have gotten really messy, which is very rare) I take of the knob, wash the top. I usually dry the top, but it doesn't matter if the inside is dry before you use it again, it's just going to get wet as as soon as you start it up, anyway. However, for storage, store your lid facing up so you don't trap moisture in your pot. Hope I answered your question!

Thank you for the prompt reply. I took off the plastic ring to wash it--just to make sure everything goes back as it should. Had a hard time getting that to sit again--had to rewatch the video. LOL The part I was concerned about is what looks like a scalloped edge on the rim. Water does go into it, so I was wondering how best to get it out. Mine was in the dish drainer for a while and then I laid it flat on the counter to see if it was still dripping from there, but it seems dry now. Thanks again!

Hi Anthony, I don't soak it or anything but I definitely run it under the tap and use LOTS of soapy water. I'm not sure what the manual says about submerging it but it doesn't have any electronic components in the lid, so I would think it would be fine. (but check your manual) :)
