I just replaced the gasket on my VVT for my 3.5 maxima (Radiator side of the motor). I didn't have a spray cleaner for the VVT unit so I used Liquid Wrench. I sprayed that stuff in all the ports and let it sit for a few moments. I then used computer air spray to blow out the residue. I reinstalled the VVT unit and wellah!!! The car runs great!! Idles fine and the pick up is awesome! Note I just replaced the valve covers and also the Electric coils on the 135 cylinders (firewall side of the motort). Since I had the Plenum off at the time. The VVT on that side of the motor was working good. Thank you for your video! I subscribed also.

Glad I looked up cleaning before buying new ones for my parents vehicle, I will try this out first before dropping 200 for 2 new solenoids. Then all I need is an O-ring kit to replace the old ones.

Many thanks for sharing. But I believe you should use 9v not 12v battery, almost valve and sensors that connected with the ECU like fuel injector run on 9v

I have a 2017 Hyundai Elantra SE. I just purchased it for a really great price. Less than $7,000 I am pulling a P0017. I changed the Camshaft Position Sensor. I noticed it was pretty gunked up. Didn't get rid of the code. Car is running smoothly but am getting poor fuel economy. I think I will try and clean the VVT solenoid. Seems to be a common problem with Hyundai.

Polarity does not matter on solenoid, purge valve, injector testing\cleaning.

Please answer one question of mine, what if the VVT solenoid is missing the filter screens that are on that specific solenoid? I ordered new ones and they don't have those screens on them like the ones already in my engine. They're Hitachi brand, new too.

I would ask the parts dealer where you purchased the VVT. They should all come with a mesh filter/Screen.

Friends I just left a comment and then decided to ask you this. I have a 2014 Chevy Malibu with a 2.5L. Runs excellent with 114,000 miles on it. However my check engine light stays on most of the time. 3 problems=check engine light, I lost 5 to 8 miles per gallon and when I floor my gas pedal trying to pass someone the car will rev up but then will just coast. It will not pick up any speed at all. I had it scanned a year ago with a scanner from O’reilly’s and it said it was the “”Acuator Control Arm.”” I dug a little deeper and found out that it is the “”VVT Solenoid.”” But my car has 3 of them. One is pretty expensive. I was going to do exactly what you just did and try to clean them today. Please tell me if you think I should just replace them or clean them like you just did in the video? I appreciate your response and if I can call on you in the future I will gladly send you some appreciation via Ebay PayPal or whatever is best for you. Is there an ohm test to perform on this sensor, or just using the battery to activate the coils in the sensor? Thanks!

Set OHM to 200 on meter. Connect both leads, 1 to each pin, no order. You should get from 2 to 9 ohms. Now leave meter on 200ohm and put black lead to metal bolt hole and then touch red lead to each pin one at a time. You should have zero ohms from ground bolt hole to each pin.

Of course, just don't make explosion when you spark the battery. Make sure to dry the VVT or VCT fully before reinstall. Low pressure air might help get rid of trash and also dry it out.

I personally would. Some people get their panties in a bunch when you use brake cleaner around electronics. If you want to be safe just use electronics cleaner

How about using the Throttle Body Cleaner. which works with the electronics and cleans nicely. If it works for the throttle body, can't see why it won't work for this.

Can a dirty VVT cause a loud rattling noise?

Kashif Javed oh absolutely. Reason for it is the fact that relationship between the throttle and the timing (advance on the cam) is compromise do to the gunk in the solenoid; This discrepancy cause the engine to “ping/rattle”

@@alcantarainterior8078 You are correct. I will be changing out my firewall side VVT on my 2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5 once the weather cools down a bit. They're not so hard to change out either. Like the video shows. I will be spraying and electronically testing to see if all is well If not? I'll already have a new replacement handy...that's just me. I like overkill. :>)

Timing correlation codes 13 through 17. Rattle from cam phasers location, sounds like valves clacking, knocking and pinging sounds, bad acceleration, weak acceleration, car stalling, very bad startup or constant engine rattle, clanking on top side.
