As a HVAC professional I will give you credit for trying. The outside unit, you cleaned pretty well. But the water really should have been sprayed from the inside of the coils to flush out the dirt. (Dirt enters from the outside towards the inside of the unit) so reverse flushing does a better job. Also large capacity units, ( 5 ton unit) may have a double row of coils making it more important to reverse flush the coils. The inside coil cleaning was incorrect. I give you credit for trying, but this is where professional earn their paycheck. You didn’t open the access door on the coil itself to inspect the inside face of the coil which is where the dirt would be. Then the coil would be vacuumed then s I’ll

I cut it to fit and wrapped it around the unit. I put all small all weather magnets on to hold it in place. One other major cause of high current draw is loose terminations inside the breaker panel, sub-panels and disconnects. Go into each with an INSULATED screwdriver and give each breaker and bus bar screw a tighten. You would be surprised what a difference it makes on current draw. When my brothers’ outdoor unit turned on, all the lights in the house would momentarily dim . After the tighten down , no more dim.👍

I saw a few minor mistakes - you moved the vacuum side to side in places instead of up and down and bent the fins which reduces the effectiveness. I'm guessing, but it seems more logical to rinse from the inside and push debris out since the debris is pulled in from the outside. You also turned the AC unit off at the main breaker, but there is a pull fuse at the top left of the unit at 1:29 into the video. Open this and pull the fuse and set the fuse on top where it is visible. This way you know for 100% certain there is not power going to the unit. Also, on the evaporator coil inside, at about 4:21 you can see the upside down "V" with the flat metal piece in between the V. You can remove that piece of metal and get to the inside of the evaporator coils and may times that is where most of the debris is located. You can pull of the debris by hand if it is bad enough, or vacuum it, and spray the inside as well. If it is built up you can use a soft nylon brush to remove the debris, but just make sure to go in the direction of the fins so you do not bend them. If you have a drain pan underneath, you could still rinse using a 2 gallon pump up sprayer (like used for killing weeds in the yard) and give it a little rinse. Thumbs up though - I love seeing people finding ways to tackle home issues that really do not require a service call if you're just brave enough to turn a screw.

@@JoseAngelPerez My pleasure! And don't forget to take a brush and clean the "J" trap at the evaporator coil drain. If left ignored too long gunk will build up and back up into the pan. I used to do this every few weeks at my last house because my home office was upstairs in a renovated attic space and the AC unit was by the stairs so I passed it multiple times a day. We've been in this new house for about 4 years and I totally forgot and the drain clogged. This backed up water into the internal drain pan that leads to the J - trap drain, and once that overflowed it drained into the back up and larger drain pan under the evaporator unit. This pan somehow passed the home inspection even though it was badly rusted across the entire pan, and as water overflowed into this pan it leaked through a pinhole and now we have a water spot in the ceiling below. Luckily we caught it before the paint and paper released enough to do any real damage. So, learn from my mistakes and do what I did...I set a reminder to change my HVAC air filters, and I just added cleaning the J - Trap to that reminder. Also, do not use those more expensive filters that block everything under the sun. I've had multiple AC techs tell me that adds a lot of strain on the unit and can damage it over time. AC unites are extremely expensive to replace so it is cheaper to buy a different device to manage that aspect of your air in the house. Oh, I just remember when the AC tech came out to check the unit after the water leak, he found the internal drain pan was cracked for about 12-14 inches. He said to just clean along that crack really well (I have a grinder with a sanding pad which will work great), and wipe it down so there is no oil, grease or anything to create a poor seal, and seal that crack with some JB Weld. That little piece of free advice was great since he could have tried pushing a several hundred dollar pan replacement, which earned him a decent cash tip from my wife. Every once in a while I also dump a gallon or two of strong and fresh bleach down the J- Trap to kill any mold, mildew, fungus and bacteria that could be starting to build up. Once dead, these organisms will decay and fade away over time and help keep the drain clear all the way out. Mine drains either into the water return to the city sewer, or under the front porch, although I've never see any water there. Two AC professionals said you should allow them to do the first through/professional cleaning for the condenser and evaporator coils, and you can keep it clean yourself from there with some careful routine maintenance. Speaking of which, I just added those to my honey-do list.

I call attention to the fact that when carrying out maintenance on the condenser, water is applied from the outside to the inside of the unit, but never the other way around, if the suction of air that passes through the condenser coil is . inside to outside and in this sense that it is necessary to start applying the water before applying the descaler that is not alkaline.

Thanks for the info!
@hediervarelamedina987 Жыл бұрын
The way in which the AC is cleaned is respectable, but as for the condenser coil, it is important, in addition to dismantling, to remove the cover where the fan motor goes to first apply water from the inside out and then in the opposite direction. apply the descaler that is not alkaline and if it is alkaline at the end apply white vinegar to neutralize the acidity of the chemical, if the descaler is not alkaline great and when rinsing start applying water from the inside out and the water comes out clean because in the lower part is where dirt accumulates and then do the same procedure on the outside. and at the end of this cleaning, check that the compressor run capacitor is at the correct mfd, for example if it is 45 mfd this or 1 mdf above or 1 mdf below because when washing the unit the system is released it will be more efficient and If the capacitor is 45mdf and having the way to measure it, it is at 40mdf, it should be changed because it is not good for the compressor to work forced to put it in some way and verify that they do not find overheating in the power lines for that matter how I already said the video is respectable.

your idea was right but your execution was wrong. When cleaning an air condenser especially with the inside air handler condenser, you clean the part where it sucks in the air on the underside, first and foremost because that's where dust build up occurs the most. You can spray the top side of the air handlers condenser too but since most of the dust that gets collected is on the underside of the condenser, that's the most important side. As for the outside units condenser that was done correctly, but you should have sprayed it from the inside out to flush it properly.

@@JoseAngelPerez yeah anything helps for sure, but you would probably would have gotten better performance if you would have cleaned out the underside of the air handlers condenser unit out. Also you should install a Uv light inside your air handler unit, it will cut drastically back on black mold growth.

Those coils are extremely sensitive I definitely wouldn't use a vacuum maybe an air compressor air gun from the inside out bending those fins is always a terrible ideal

Thanks for the feedback, I did what I could on my end and I did notice an improvement. For what you are recommending I would use a professional.

Thanks for watching! I am not a professional, what I did was just a simple operation and I noticed better performance for my AC. There is a lot more that can and should be done, but for that I would recommend a professional.
